Alright, well I am currently having a small problem with saving an image as a targa with alpha layers. For some reason, the alpha chanel check box is greyed out, so I can't save it with the alpha chanels. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?

[EDIT] Oh when I said PS P I meant PS whoops sorry about that, totally different programs lol.

Maybe this article on SL Universe will help: http://www.sluniverse.com/kb/article.aspx?id=10190

Hmm not much really. I know the file type, I know how to make the alpha layer, the only problem is that the Targa (*.tga,*.vga,*.icb,*.vst) won't let me click the alpha layer box checked, and I don't know how to select specifically .tga.

[EDIT] Oh when I said PS P I meant PS whoops sorry about that, totally different programs lol.

The extra time and effort required to make it clear which program you are asking for help with is worth the effort.

The specific version of the program can make a difference also.

Are you asking about Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, and exactly what version?

Like I said in my last post, that was a mistake of my own, and I can't change the thread's title. Sorry about that. The program I am using is Adobe Photoshop CS.

If you're using CS, I can only think of a couple of reasons why the Alpha Channel option would be greyed out.

One is that you don't have an alpha channel. You do need to make it manually. If you don't know how to do that, and you like video tutorials, I have one on my site here that shows you how.

The other reason is that you're not in RGB mode. But most of the other modes don't allow you to save a .tga file at all, with or without an alpha. So I'd check to make sure that you have an Alpha channel. (Photoshop hasn't automatically made them from transparent pixels in the image since 7.)

Hmm well I did make an alpha chanel manually, and I know i am in RGB mode since I do have color. Thus my confusion lol. Kim I do know how to make them, that isn't a problem. In fact I have done this before, just for some reason it isn't working now.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I hope I can get this fixed lol.

[EDIT] Ok, well I think I FINALLY figured out what was wrong. Apperently, I had a second alpha chanel that was all white. I deleted that, and it worked out -nod-. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Don't know if this will help Taalon, but I gave up trying to do this with PS. I found it's easier to make a useable alphachannel layer tga file by using GIMP. It's a free download and will accept any layered work you've already done in PS.

Thanks for telling us the fix, Taalon. Next time someone asks, we'll know what to tell them!

Yeah, just so everyone knows, if you use the SL provided things, it comes with an already made alpha channel.

For photoshop 7.0, you need to download an update (7.0.1) available at their website.

When you run the update, it *might* say it can't find Photoshop, even if it's there and pointing at the right folder.

In that case you install photoshop again then run the update.
