Alpha Channel Halo

I use mostly PSP 7 though I also have 8 and Photoshop 7. When a finished product comes from PSP 7 , a logo cutout or plant or anything , it usually has a white ghost around it or halo. its small but I would like to hear from others, what may be the best way to remove it..I don't want it on tattoos or other things... Thanks

Actually, that's not what you want to do, unless you want a very jagged looking edge to your opaque areas. What you want to do instead is make sure that your alpha channel is anti-aliased, and that your edge colors in the RGB channels extend beyond the alpha edge. This way you don't end up with a bit of the background color blended into the edges.

I use photoshop so I don't know how it works in PSP, but I just make sure I'm working over a 100% transparent background rather than a solid background. That eliminates the possibility of picking up a bit of the background color along the edges.

A trick that works well to "soften" the edges is to shrink the selection by a pixel or two, and then feather the alpha channel by the same amount. This causes the edge to fade out rather than get chopped off. Works great for fabrics - not so good for leathers or other "hard" textures.

Alpha in Photoshop is done it 2 ways..so depending on your TGA plugin

If u have TGA using grayscale Alpha channel try this -

If making a single colored word on a transparent background then type white onto black backround and save as alpha channel..Make the RGB image a single color - White with no text on it.There will be no halo and u can change text color using in world sliders.

same principle if you have say an AV pic on solid background.
Manually bleed the edge pixels into the areas alpha'd transparent but the alpha channel. If hair is black paint black all around the hair like this example
