hi, im extremly new to making clothes (just started like 45 minutes ago)
It seems i cant upload anything like a gif or psd so that the transparent parts arent white when i bring them into the game. (i could use the in-game clothing editor to get the results of what i have in mind)

I assume tga format allows transparency, but I cant save the imgaes i have to that format (I have adobe photoshop cs2). is there a converter or something?

sorry if i over looked something.

*NEW QUESTION*
I got the transpancy and all, but now I'm trying to figure out how to make my own textures and use them the paint with (use the brush pr pencil to paint the already-made-texture where i want it). Like, say i wanted to paint a fishnet texture along the leg, without having to paint something from scratch.

i used to be able to do that witb adobe 6 with the default textures, but now i cant find it in CS2 (which I just bought). I keep looking in the help files, but I'm get no where.

I cant even find the default textures that i found in adobe 6.

i hope im making sense

You have the ideal program!

Targa (.tga) is the format you must use to get transparancy in SL and Photoshop CS2 is the ideal program (in my opinion) to use! You will find Targa in the File Types drop down in CS2.

However, you will need to learn how to use this file format in clothing making, I recommend you read the thread: "Transparency and Alpha Channels: The Definitive Guide - by Chosen Few" which is close to the beginning of this Textures forum.

Have fun!

If targa is not showing in your list of formats when you do your save as, make sure your image mode is set to RGB and 8 bits per channel.

yeah i think i was over looking it. i didnt see it until targa was mentioned.

I have another question i'd like to ask, rather than make a new topic.

I'm not sure what came bundled with version 6, but you might be able to use the fill tool to fill in a fishnet pattern into a designated area.

-Create a new layer.
-Use the polygonal lasso tool to select the area you want filled with a texture.
-Select the fill (paint bucket) tool. Instead of the usual solid colour fill, look at the toolbar at the top. You can switch from filling it with 'foreground' to filling it with a 'pattern'.
-Set the layer mode to either 'multiply' or 'overlay' to make it blend with the background below.

By default, the patterns provided by CS is pretty limited. But you can easily define your own. You can for example, find a seamless fishnet texture, open up the file. Then to define it as a new pattern, go

-Edit > Define Pattern

You should then be able to use this the next time you use the fill tool.

You can also set the brush tool to paint with a pattern. See the enclosed screenshot.
