This is taken from the "Links of Interest" page on my blog. If you want to visit, it's in my sig.
![]() Skin Design I’m listing everything I know of, what you do with it is up to you. All I ask is that you LEARN from them. Clicking layers on and off is not learning anything new ![]() Eloh Eliot’s PSD’s: http://eloheliot.blogspot.com/ These caused quite a bit of controversy when they were originally released. They are very well presented and an excellent resource for when you are starting out. Please read through her terms of use included with the PSD’s. Splendour Skin Resource: http://sezmra.com/?page_id=7 The quality of the base skins speak for themselves. They are flattened images, so modifying them will be more difficult- but if you’re after a VERY big shortcut- this could be a place to start. Olila’s Second Life Tutorials: http://olilas-secondlife.com/tutorials-by-subject/ Hands down the best step-by-step tutorial on skin making currently available. Olila takes you from start to finish using Photoshop and Smart Objects. If you really want to say “I made it from scratch” this is where you should head! Texturing Skin in Adobe Photoshop: http://mediadesigner.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=31082 This is the first part of a three part series that walks you through how to texture skins for 3D models in PS. The brushes created by Dave Nagel are fantastic. This is where I got the bulk of my info for my own personal line of skins. And yes… I chose to do it the hard way! ![]() Multi Chan Hax Head: http://tech-slop.serveit.org/wiki/index.php?title=Multi_Chan_Hax_Head This is a fantabulously-super-dooper “quick and sleazy” way of photo-sourcing a head using Abu Nasu’s (can I call him GOD again?) PS plug-in. I’ve already mentioned it in one of my posts- but it deserves to be here too- along with all the others. FREAKING NIFTY SH*T!!!! There is also an official forum entry about it as well in the Texturing Tips section. Namssour’s Slider Conversions: http://www.secondskinlabs.com/Downloads/downloads1.html I got a lot out of this PSD… I found it fascinating to see how someone else organizes their work. Oh! And I also discovered the powers of “adjustment layers” after opening this. Great stuff! On page two of the downloads section, Namssour has also offered up her high-res fingernails and toenails as well. The goodies just keep coming! That's a wrap! I bet that's more info than you bargained for. ![]() _____________________

ok, first i was depressed...
09-11-2009 16:37
but i'm sort of working on becoming a MANIC depressive, since manic seems like way more fun (don't throw stuff, i know that's not true...), so when i saw all these links - some of which i'd seen before and which had (all together now... ) depressed me, today they just didn't strike me that way.
i've been working on skins for three years and it's been slow slogging and i finally have something i'm sort of happy with and JEEZ, why is somebody giving away the goods??? but maybe i just don't care now. or maybe i think there's room for all kinds of flavor. or maybe i'd just like to see SL seem alive instead of like a big dead pretty thing. so i looked over some of the tutorials and they're great. i'm going to try some of them. the thing i've always loved most about SL is the generosity of people who go out of their way to make what seems inconceivable almost possible for mere mortals (Chip, Namssour, Chosen, now Claire...). so thanks for posting those great links and good luck to all making them into something beautiful.
