I am totally new to all of this. How do I give my character a fox tail and ears and a muzzle? Can someone tell me how you all do this?

You can buy FURRY avatars from many vendors. Some of the best are in LUSKWOOD.

Thats Linden Dollars hehe.. Or L$..

You can also make them, by learning how to build and texture.. There are building classes in the event calender sometimes. Try searching the events menu in world.

yes, for furries, go to Luskwood, or the Forest, same maker in both sims. For anthropomorphic try the WereHouse, she's got some GREAT anthropomorphic av's.

Be sure to check out ExtroVirtual, too, especially for unusual species and Tiny Critters.

If you go to the Forest Store in 'The Forest' sim, you can find quite a selection of Furry avatars. There are some FREE ones in the vendor kiosks outside the store, to the left of the entrance. I think you might even find a simple red fox avatar there, for free.

Inside the store, on the first floor, Luskwood and Jakkal's Werehouse both make great ones. Typical price for a good one is L$600 for un-modifyable, and L$900-1000 for a modifyable version.

I'm very happy with my red fox avatar from Jakkal's Werehouse. :D

The Forest is one of several sims that is pretty much all Furrys. It's where I live in SL.

Incidentally, if your fox is supposed to be a youngling, Jakkal's Werehouse has a line of 'Kits' that are specificly adolescent vixens and todds (girl and boy foxes). Jakkal is one of the few I know who sell kits as well as full adult scaled furry avatars.

Just as a primer of how these things work, the extra parts are objects made of prims that you attach to your body. There are specific attachment points, like spine and right forearm, and each piece can be moved around, but it moves with that attachment location. For example, a paw would be attached to each foot. I guess the furry avs also contain skin textures, which are "painted" right on your body.

Yep. For example, my Jakkal's Werehouse Red Fox has:

a custom body shape (both Male and Female provided)
a custom 'skin tattoo' layer, for most of the body fur texture and color.
a 'head' that is a muzzle prim, attached to the head just below the eyes.
a set of custom eyes, that use the original Avatar's eyes.
a neck ruff, that attaches to your neck
a tail, that attaches to the back of your pelvis
optional footpaws
optional digitigrade lower legs

The body shape pretty radically reshapes your head, so it looks right when wearing the 'muzzle' head part, which also includes your ears. The result is very realistic, you still have the original eyes, and the Avatar can still wear almost all Human-type clothes.

I found that to wear long pants, I had to do without the digitigrade lower legs. To wear shoes, do without the lower legs and the footpaws. It's designed to look good in all three versions of legs.

Since the neck ruff attaches to your neck, and the head to your head, you can't wear a necklace or glasses that attach at those points. And if you attachs anything else to your pelvis, you'll need to adjust the tail so it attaches to your spine or hip instead of the pelvis.

I added nicely styled Human-type hair for my vixen character, and I made custom eyes to give me the color I wanted and a vertical slit pupil, like Foxes have.

Luskwood and many other Furry avatars uses a 'full head' prim mask. That works sort of like a 'mascot costume', in that a larger head completely encloses the Avatar head. That sort of avatar has eyes painted on the head mask, and they are sometimes 'animated' so they still blink. Some Avatars also have handpaws that you wear like gloves, to have paws instead of human hands, and some have fur ruffs for the forearms and lower legs.

the fur ruffs rock. I have the white werewolf av from the WereHouse, and I just WISH I could do the fur ruff. :D

Yeah, I'll buy from one of them, but first I have to get some money... I only have the 250 L$ right now.
FYI: I want a red fox, with a blue jacket, white undershirt and big blue jeans. And a nintendo controller as a necklace.

There -are- some you can get for L$250. I don't know if Rynworks has L$250 avs anymore (they may), but I know Kwipper does - though I'm not sure where his shop is now. (We were trying to find a place for him but RL got too hellish.)

Actually if you want to be furry NOW, but don't have the money to buy one of the better avies or you are working on learning how to make your own, there are a couple of places where you can pick up FREE furry avies.

*The Forest has an outside vedor area next to their store, and in that area, against the wall of the store and down the aisle a bit, there is a vendor that gives out a lot of freebie stuff, including a collection of furry avatars that include some fox avatars (and one of them is a red fox, I'm pretty certain). Also, just across from that vendor is another vendor with a couple of free furry avatars, with one being a red fox (hmm, might be the exact same fox, not sure). The big freebie vendor can also be found right near the teleport pad in Furnation. (Sorry, I forget whose vendor that is).

These avatars don't look as good as the ones you can buy for $700 to $900, but hey, they're free.

In addition to Luskwood, Lost Furest, The Forest store (inside!), and Jakkal's Warehouse, check out Dwellget (in Taco) and the Furnation Skymall. In Dwellget you'll find avatars from Lucah, Evangeline, and Whinge that are probably on the more cutesy/cartoony side, but I like 'em. ^_^

Nice plug Alliez. ;)

Anyway, for $L250, there's a large selection in the northwest corner of the store in the Forest for that price.
