I want to make some hats

Not to sell, but for personal use. Are there any templates available for this? Or is this something that has to be built using different means? And, if this is the case, where can one build objects if they don't have their own land?

Hello HenryJames. Unfortunately all hats in second life must be built using prims they're not "clothing" as such. You may build in sandbox regions if you do not own land, do a search for sandbox and you'll find one.

I have made several nice hats. As the earlier poster said, you make them using prims. Find a public sandbox for a place to build. As a hint, I'll recommend you first rez a prim, streach it to about 2 M long, and sit on one end of it. Then ride the prim up to 400M or so to get away from the casual griefers and general clutter. You can rez he prims you are working with on the end of the prim you're sitting on. Just don't stand up, or you'll fall back to the ground!

Once the prims have been shaped, textured and linked tohether to make your hat, get a posing stand (several free ones are available in freebie boxes), and initially "wear" the hat, choosing your left ear or your nose or your right ear for the attachment point. Avoid using the more obvious "Skull" attachment, as your hat would replace prim hair if you choose that point.

Now, while standing on the posing stand, edit the position of the hat till it is in the right position and orientation. When done, take the hat into inventory. When you 'wear" the hat next time, it should be in the same position.
