There are a lot of web sites on human anatomy out there! Just do a Google search. They are people of all shapes and sizes available and not just the beautiful people.

A cautionary tale...

I need a good place to get female and male pictures for skins....I want to us it as a reference for photorealistic skins. Any ideas? These are great resources and I have bookmarks of some and added the others but I would remind folks to new digital imagery or even if you are using a book as a source. Normally it would not really matter because of the output but the terms used were "reference" and "photorealistic" so I must comment. And reproduction including the very best are degenerated copies of the original. The more copies made of the copies the more degradation creeps in. Mismatching of color spaces, reduction in gamut sizes even the limitations of the acquiring instrument whether it be a scanner or digital camera can introduce errors that take the color away from the original, the human. The best recommend? Well its simple, use the image resources and adjust the color to what you think looks good. Clearly many folks in the SL have the ability to do great skin jobs, no pun intended, but referenced photorealistic is in the eye of the beholder. PS Does the last name mean we are part of a long lost clan? ![]() _____________________

Hallo!
06-21-2006 08:33
Hi, Has anyone mentioned FEMJOY.COM yet? The quality is fantastic with nice high res pics.
I am also just getting into this. I started because I wanted to put tattoos on my skin. And as a girl, just one skin / tattoo just doesn't cut it with all my outfits. I tried putting them on clothes, as suggested in another forum, but as already remarked that limits your clothes options. Let me see, crotch coverage or just the mohawk with a side order of that real cool hip tattoo? Also, the clothes option doesn't let you place the tattoos right where ya wannem... in all the bad spots naturally... hee hee Not sure yet if the way to go is finer REZ or grainier. Will let you know... Or maybe some of you out there in TV land might direct this post to the correct thread. LUV SUZZ, |

Hi again
06-23-2006 05:32
as promised, been doing some experimenting with those sites.
I've mentioned FEMJOY.COM. While these fotos are great to look at, the artists page seems much better for our application; presents multiple angles of a model on matte backgrounds. OK where do we go from here? First off, the shading in any real picture is problematic in that it tends to create seams. I'm trying to figure out a way to edit out the shadows without losing texture. Next off, the texture seems to get watered down when uploaded. Those subtle blotches in the skin seem to get smeared away. Anyone have any comments on that? Third off, those seams are a B! The pigment in the skin is always a little different from pic to pic. Probably best to use one modelling shoot. Problem is, its so hard to find just the right model and foto shoot. I thought maybe of turning the whole dang thing to grey scale, then just colorizing to get one even skin tone. The blur method just Sux! Now I know why the highest quality skins are not modifiable! LUV SUZZ PS Any skinners wanna help me, feel free! I just want a tattoo on my ass! (that doesnt come off when I take off my pants ![]() |

The seams I've been blending together whatever way I can just by checking every little change I do on the edges. I hate those shadows and try to use photos ones colored evenly and keep the shadows out as much as possible. I think I'm doing ok. It's been at least 40 hours or so and I never knew it would take so much work. I hate the arms, argh!! LL thought it must've been funny to make them so bizarre for the templates. |

It's been at least 40 hours or so and I never knew it would take so much work. I hate the arms, argh!! LL thought it must've been funny to make them so bizarre for the templates. What I tend to do with mine is to do the shadows/highlights/texture grains on separate layers, with -just- the base skin tone on the bottom. Then before I upload, I check for seams on in DAZ. If I notice anything's a bit off, I can go back with a soft eraser and take off the accents/shadows or highlights that are along the seam lines, so that it transparently blends down to the base color. Voila. No seams. Mostly it means learning to color within the lines, or being willing to go back and touch up the lines to make sure it stays seamless. I've only been doing this for about two months now - I'm really keen to get better at painting highlights, but my computer has more or less died on me. Won't run GIMP reliably without crashing, and after three attempts at working where I lost a good 45 minutes of painting each time...No thanks. I'll wait until I can get a new system and steal my SO's tablet to hand paint highlights myself. ![]() That said, picking up some demo skins in game and seriously zooming in on them can really help inspire you -- I know I bought some Starley Thereian skins recently that are just so gorgeous I'm -dying- to get back in and start adding more detail to my work -- shoulderblades especially! My shoulderblades are no good! Anyway, keep at it. ![]() |

Thanks, but DAZ???
07-04-2006 05:21
HIYA Y'ALL
Great stuff. Anyway, Galbraith writes "Then before I upload, I check for seams on in DAZ. If I notice anything's a bit off, I can go back with a soft eraser and take off the accents/shadows or highlights that are along the seam lines, so that it transparently blends down to the base color. " But I find DAZ awful on colors. They never seem to match AT ALL the colors on SL. So its difficult to spot the seams I find. Any TIPS on how to make the colors and/or seams stand out more in DAZ??? Any TIPS on how to make the colors and/or seams stand out more in DAZ??? Don't know if it's possible with DAZ, but good way to track down colour changes and seams is to set object to 'full bright' (or luminosity 100, diffuse 0 depending on program) ... this way shades and tint from lighting don't affect what you see. |

Good advice. I use 3ds max for seam checking and cleanup with a material set to 100% self-illumination. I'm not sure if Daz, Poser, or Tattoo have that ability. The best bet if they don't is to rotate the av model so that the seam you're checking has a lightsource shining directly at it. That should minimize shading artifacts. _____________________

Question about DAZ Studio
07-04-2006 11:08
I just recently downloaded the DAZ Studio after reading the suggestions here so that i can see my creations on a 3d model without having to upload into SL and then correct, then uploading again.
Ive been reading the information and tutorials on the DAZ website but how would i upload a skin or tattoo or clothing out of Paintshop Pro into DAZ Studio? I apologize if this is a no brainer... Do I import the file? and if I do import the file do i need to save it in a different format before trying to import? Which one? I would like to use DAZ to model my tattoos, skins, or clothing created in Paintshop Pro to make sure my seams are lined up correctly etc. I appreciate any help anyone can give me ![]() |
