I just recently started SL (a week ago) and want to start designing my own clothing/av skins. I've gotten the hang of tattoos (cut paste fade the template) but I haven't been able to figure out clothing yet. Example, how do I make a leather vest with buckles with AP7 and get it to texture over so it can be used as clothing? I know this is newbish but gotta ask somewhere.

Same question with skins, how do I make my own without paying 1500L ingame?

Any and all help would be appricated. Thank you.

Do you have Chip Midnight's templates? I highly recommend you download them and use them. Chosen Few's remark yesterday that they "kick more ass than a boot glued to a toilet seat" was both hilarious and accurate.

SLUniverse Template downloads

I'm working on some textures that will have straps and buckles, and all I'm doing is sticking the add-ons onto a new layer on the texture file. If you want them to be 3dimensional, you'll probably have to create some prims and attach them.

As for skins, I can't answer that in its entirety. Avie skins are really just another texture, but with different layout on the template. I haven't gotten that far yet :)

I was trying to learn skinning too, but I found an avatar who had the perfect skin I wanted. So I invited him over to my house and put him in the well in my basement. I would lower him some lotion in a basket 3 times a day and instruct him to put it on.

"It puts the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again."

Once it gets soft and supple enough it's ready for removal. Once you have enough skin you can make your own custom skin!!!! I've heard that this how all the top skinners do it!

Thanks for my morning chuckle, Vince. "Buffalo Bill" creeped me out to no end, but I enjoyed your post :)

Of course, now I'll never be able to shop for skins again. Are there any therapists in SL?
