Left click and hold on the clone brush icon and you can choose between clone and pattern stamp (CS2). :)

There are some basic lessons on Photoshop from the Adobe website here. It shows you what the different tools are.

Photoshop has no tool called "rubber stamp". Depending on from what software you migrated to Photoshop, your definition of "rubber stamp" could be any of several different things.

Most likely what you're looking for is the clone stamp, which takes a sample of an image, and then allpws you to apply that sample over another image or over any part of the same image. On the toolbox, the clone stamp is the fifth tool from the top in the left hand column. As Serafina said, it might be hidden under the pattern stamp at the moment, so if it is, simply click and hold on the pattern stamp button for a second (or right click on it) and you'll see the button stack as a list. Select whichever tool you want to be on top. (Adobe saves screen space by stacking groups of buttons on top of eachother on the toolbox. They do this in pretty much all their programs, not just Photoshop. With a little practice, you'll remember what's where. The groupings are pretty logical.)

In case you're wondering waht the pattern stamp does, by the way, well, it paints patterns. Instead of painting a sample of an open image like the clone stamp, it samples from small pre-existing images (patterns) which you can select from the pop-up pattern palette in the tool's options bar (top of the screen when the tool is selected). You can also create your own patterns for the stamp in addition to using the pre-existing ones.

You might also be looking for the healing brush, which is very similar to the clone stamp. The main difference is that while the clone stamp produces an exact copy from the sampled image, the healing brush combines the copy with existing highlights and shadows from the target area, so that the copy blends in with its new surroundings instead of just painting over them. You'll find the healing brush directly above the clone stamp on the toolbox.

Stacked with it the healing brush are the spot healing brush (for quickly covering small blemishes or spots without the need for sampling by hand), the patch tool (works like the healing brush but uses a marquee area instead of a brush), and the redeye removal tool (self explanatory).

That about covers everythig that other programs might tend to call "rubber stamp". If you were looking for something else, let us know.

This is so brutal to newbies. It used to be called 'rubber stamp' and renamed by Adobe to 'clone stamp' for semantics reasons but it is essentially the same tool.

Yeah, sucks when they rename things, doesn't it? For what it's worth, I do like the name "clone stamp" better than "rubber stamp", but change simply for change's sake is almost always a bad idea. Oh well.

Anyway, Photoshop hasn't used the term "rubber stamp" since, what, 1999? I think it was version 6 that changed it to "clone stamp". Out of curioisity, anyone remember that far back? Am I right?

I remember. It was the transition between version 5.5 to 6.
