How to get sharp tattoos?

We have been trying to make tattoos that look sharp on the avatars body, even when viewed in close-up. But whatever resolution we tried on the texture in PS, the final upload in SL always result in blurry tattoos. Is there a possiblilty to make them look more sharp and detailed?

There will always be a certain amount of blurring on a tattoo when it is viewed close-up. Even when a maximum resolution of 512 x512 is used for the layer.

Owing to the distribution of polygons in the avatar mesh, the amount of blurring will vary depending on where the tattoo is placed. The same tattoo will look somewhat sharper on the belly or forearm than a butt cheek, for instance.

The only way to get a crisp visual is to place a high resolution alpha texture on one face of a prim attachment, leaving the other faces completely transparent. This is a less than ideal solution because it is tricky to fit attachments and the method will only work for a partially naked avatar.

What you are doing is probably as good as it is going to get.

I am covered in mostly custom tats and i do not worry about it... It is just an SL limitation unless you do as Ephraim says. A lot of people seem to be using "prim tattoo's" these days, especially for face tats.

For quick answers, this was what we already suspected.
