Now.. This isn't a suggestion.. I just want a bit of discussion on the subject.. Coz I'm intrested Ok, I don't know why the minimum number of members in a group was put it place, or why it was set at 3.. But now, with a grid with a large number of renters, that ask you have a group of which you are an (or the only) officer so you can make changes to your land, such as name, description etc.. Do you think it should be removed? Let 1 person be in a group and keep it? Maybe only if they've been active for a set amount of time.. Maybe only if the group owns/rents land? I've helped at least a couple of newbies who've loved the idea of renting in a private island (no political signs for the most part), but are put off by needing a group, and not wanting to create 2 alts.. What do you think? Pros/Cons? Poll to come. Discuss!!

Yes, I think that groups should be allowed to have only one person to survive. But groups with less then 3 members need not be advertised to the public. I don't know of any drawbacks in that case.

I create a group for myself just to have a personalized Title, sometimes my 'group' cancels after 3 days, and sometimes it's around 10 days or so before I have to make it again. I'd like to be able to have my own 'group' with just me in it for that purpose, but I can see why that would defeat the purpose of the word group heh

changing it would simply give every land owner a 10% discount So I voted No

It should either be removed, or an alternative offered for couples.

Groups are used to often for purposes other than what they were intended. Av titles, mall/apartment rentals, land editing, etc. How about coming up with better tools to handle these things? Then I don't see why groups would need to be less than 3.

I always thought 3 was a little low for that anywayz.. Given anyone who wants it wouldn't be put off by having to create 3 avs, but it would put people off renting..

It is such a pain when you have to make a group for land rental or purchasing land in Dreamland. I have had to make friends a part of groups before and beg that they don't leave it or then I have to make yet another group and ask that the land be deeded again to the new group. Which can also be a pain if your friends are almost maxed on groups. So I do agree with the point above that there should be better tools in which to deal with groups renting land or owning land. There has to be a better way.

Exactly the sort of situation I was thinking of Felicity! This thread has been posted in hotline for Linden attention also Good to know Toy! It'd be a good step the raise the limit on the group land bonus anyway..

From: Travis Bjornson What's this about a discount? If a group on the mainland, owns land, they get 10% extra tier, supposedly.. Tho I was never sure how it worked.. I also think you give up a considerable amount of dwell, having to deed it to a group.. And lose developer bonus' too I think, tho that won't be a problem soon..

I needed a group. I did research and found I needed 3 people to start one. I started an alt and had it join my group. I tried to start another alt, but the credit card only worked for two alts. I applied for another credit card. I waited. Fed up, I managed to get some friends to join my group until my third alt was made. Finally the credit card arrived and I started my third alt and had it join my group.
Now.
Suppose the restrictions are taken away on groups and we only need one member to start a group and maintain it.
Since my alts only exist for the groupage, would I be able to cancel them and get reimbursed the $9.95 or whatever it was each?
I doubt it.
Keep the 3-member minimum. If I have to pay $20, so does everyone else.

Keep the 3-member minimum. If I have to pay $20, so does everyone else. Thats an awful thing to say.. If the residents before us in beta had said, "NO!" don't stop taxes! If I had to pay taxes for all my prims, so do they!! Or when the free accounts started, a few people did in fact, say "NO" I had to pay $9.95 for my first basic account, everyone else should!! I strongly disagree with that point..

With group features working as well as they always have, I recommend that they remain untouched. A bug I know is better than one I don't.

If you're a Live Helper, you are familiar with the number of calls from new residents that go like this: From: Live Help Chat
New Resident: Hi! My wife and I just joined SL and got our first land. We'd like to pool our two properties together. How can we do that?
Live Helper: You need to create a group first. But - you need 3 people to do so. I'd suggest you create a 3rd alt account in order to make your group, and then pool your property.
New Resident: You mean I have to pay $9.95 just so my wife and I can group our parcels?
Live Helper: Yes
New Resident: <explicative> <phrase of disgust> <grumble>
In the case above, the 10% bonus is irrelevant. You have two residents who simply want to group their land together. There should be a way to do that with only 2 people involved.

I chose other because, I think the limit should not be taken away but decreased to 2. This is why...If individuals are allowed to make groups then the possibility of abuse for groups is going to increase alot. Two would limit the possibility of using it to greif yet allow couples or best friends to group together. MJ
