I want to purchase a larger piece of land and I'm required to have a group. I need more space for prims. I'm really not interested in creating alts to circumvent the requirement. The land will not be used for any commercial purposes. In RL when u purchase a larger home, u don't need a group for that. So I'm not understanding this. Thank you in advance 4 your prompt response.

I don't understand, either. Who or what is indicating that you need to have a group?

Yeah, you can purchase as much land as you like without a group. I think there used to be tier-fee benefits for groups, but I'm not sure that's even the case any more.

No requirement to be in a group to buy land. I own 16K in my own name just fine.

You must be trying to 'purchase' land in an estate sim. You don't need a group to purchase land on the main grid.

It is; group owned land is allowed an additional 10% within a specific tier level.

Maybe the OP is looking at a parcel in a private sim which requires the group rather than a parcel with tier paid directly to LL.

Heh. Or, what Hiro said. :)

I contacted sable in-world since she seemed to be in a rush and as suspected she was attempting to get land on a private island. All of my private island rentals have required a group, and will until 1.12, unless someone can offer an alternative...

Sable,

You need to have a group to buy land on a Private Island because if you do that, there is another player who owns the Island and pays for its hosting and upkeep. That other player who owns the Island always has some degree of control over all the land on it (even if they choose not to use it, it's not possible for them to give it up) and thus it would be incorrect to say that you own the land completely - it's owned by a group which will usually include at least yourself and the Island owner.

As mentioned a future version of SL may change this and you can still buy land without a group if you buy on the mainland.
