/3/c8/120915/1.htmlFrom: Joshua Linden Second Life 1.11 release on Wednesday, July 19th, 2006 Hi everyone - We are planning the release of Second Life version 1.11 on Wednesday July 19, 2006 pending final verification of all issues. Second Life will be unavailable from 7am to 12pm PDT/SLT for the update. New client software will be required to access 1.11. The 1.11 Preview grid will be available all weekend. There are some known issues, but please check out the new functionality for yourself. Second Life viewers can be downloaded from the Preview page of our website, http://secondlife.com/community/preview.php. Changes include: * Zoomable UI (check out Preferences > Graphics > UI Size) * Improved snapshot functionality * Eyedropper tool for picking colors and textures * Single-gesture pie menu (down, drag, up, instead of two clicks) * Tear off menus * Parcel ban limits extended to 300 Release notes will be available on Tuesday, pending final verification of all issues. Joshua Linden I ask that people please go to the preview and give the new snapshot system a careful and thorough examination. There were earlier reports of blurriness in the text, it would be good to have this checked by as many people as possible.

Anyone know what this Parcel ban limit to 300m is about?
Does that mean it will now be 300m for everyone and 768 (or more?) for banned avs?

"Parcel Ban Limits" would imply the 768m height for specifivally banned avatars is coming down to 300m, meaning another ruling in favor of flyers in Second Life.

Or does it mean that the parcel ban limit is extended to 300 entries, not meters? I think that is what it is implying.

I think one may be able find out the answer to this question going to http://secondlife.com/community/preview.php , downloading the preview software, and seeing for one's self.

From: Gabe Lippmann You could also ask someone who has used the preview. Eyedropper, huh....... Alternately one could test the preview themselves, thereby serving to check whether the client crashes on that particular computer setup, and try out all the new features, see if they like them, and offer feedback before they hit the main grid.

Well, I'm flying around in preview now... and can't find any land with ban lines - the regions in preview are clustered around the WA, and I don't think there is any ban land near there...

From: Seifert Surface Well, I'm flying around in preview now... and can't find any land with ban lines - the regions in preview are clustered around the WA, and I don't think there is any ban land near there... I guess we need to get the Lindens to put some land for sale there and put some bans on some parcels. How do like the new snapshot feature, Seifert? I just installed the latest version of Siva and landed in Morris. Oh the horror! Morris is a mess in Siva. How do you like the map search function? The map doesn't seem to be working quite right. It's not retaining the location it is displaying properly. Surely there is some banned land in Da Boom. Too bad we can't see ban status on the map. Perhaps someone reading that owns land in preview could go there and investigate and experiment with parcel bans. DaBoom and Tehama are in the preview. So is FairChang Island, may Garth or Pituca could go there and set some land bans in effect? There is a parcel with a ban at DaBoom/112/114 It sure does seem like it would be a better test if you could buy land in the Siva preview. Well, at any rate, I do see in the About Land Access tab that the 300 refers to the maximum number of people that can be banned.

Ah yes, found the ban land in Da Boom, yeah looks like its still at 50m (phew).
Snapshots look good... though I don't see why some combinations of options are greyed out... it seems that postcards are automatically sent as a jpg, but snapshot to hard drive is automatically a bmp. What if I want the harddrive snapshot to be a jpg? (Which is really much more sensible). What if I want to send a postcard of a depth map, or the object id map? I don't seem to be able to. Some parameters to slide on the depth map would be useful... it doesn't seem to see anything beyond about 2 meters from the camera for me.
Yeah, an option to turn off the flash and fall-away animation please. If trying to get a very specific effect one will want to see quickly and easily exactly what a small change has, and the effects will be very distracting.
The map search seems to be the same as the autocomplete currently. Searching for "da" returns "Da Boom" and "Darkwood". One might assume that searching for "wo" would bring up "Darkwood" also, but it doesn't.

From: Gabe Lippmann Nonsense. Your cogent argument has caused me to reconsider my previous statement. I now suggest avoiding the preview grids at all cost. The preview grids are open oozing wounds on the face on the earth and must be cauterized. An antibiotic oinment should be applied and covered with an aniseptic bandage; this dressing should be changed daily. Also, people are constantly having orgies there and handing out copyable scripts for super-powered orbiters; no respectable person would be caught dead in a place like that. From: Yiffy Yaffle If the 300 meens LIST entries i'm gona crap! On the About Land dialog, Access tab it said Avatars: (0 listed, 300 max), if my memory is right. I can't check it right this instant because the preview grid is not back up yet, plus there's all that wild sex and free weaponry there, no one in their right mind would even think of venturing into a place like that.

Hey Gabe, I wanted to make sure you saw this post, I worked hard to make the part above demonstrate how one word, properly timed and delivered in just the right manner, can really turn another persons's opinion around.
