Ban Control

I did a search and nothing on this came up. If it has and my browser was just glitching, my apologies :)

So far I've come across fairly reasonable people on SL, but I've heard stories about players getting harassed and sometimes have even seen it myself. If someone bumps you you can warn them, but that seems to be the extent of it. I've seen people use weapons, too, or other scripts to put a box around others or just generally annoy them. It would be nice if the user had the option of ban controls so that individual players can take care of problem players should the need arise. The following features could be handy (all of which could be undoable by the user later):

1. Mute (already exists)
2. Mute sounds from player (Mute hasn't done that when I've tried it)
3. Ban scripts executed by the problem user from being seen or affecting the user
4. A barrier (up to 5 meters maybe) preventing the problem user from touching the user, saving the need for whoever reads bump harrassment logs lots of time and trouble

I thought about a ban ranking (a red number indicating how many people have banned the player) but then thought it wouldn't be a good idea in case a group of people want to harass someone, effectively ruining their rep based on the number.

Any other thoughts on the matter?

This has been discussed quite a bit in the past, normally in conjunction with the glaring need for privacy controls. I'll link you to my thoughts on privacy in SL:

There has been a lot of discussion as well about security scripts in SL, and how they should work. The current "banning from land" system is also woefully unsufficient. If you ban someone, they can sit there and firebomb you from above, or still shout and be heard on your land.

If they did this, I would just IM a Linden immediately.

Your problem is SL is both businesses and pleasure. I have been issued devices to communicate with my firm 24/7 and it tells them my location as well! I work in a secure environment surrounded by armed guards and high fences. I live in a gated community with more guards and fences. In Second Life, I do not have any such issues and am annoying enough not to have to worry about friends interrupting me. In any case my SL is completely separate from my rl one.

My point is this. Are there enough residents in SL wanting change to warrant a complete rewrite of the calling cards/friends software? Will Linden Labs go to this effort or will they just deactivate carding cards and friends. You will still get those "annoying" IM's even if the above is done. What would you want next, disabling the online function and Instant messages? Would you want then to limit who and when someone can IM you?

I am not sure myself as to the proper way to do the above in SL. Perhaps your solution is the way to go perhaps not. I just have no disagreement with the status quo.
