Why do we have PG and Mature regions? I support the fact that we should have regions that are more friendly without gambling and mature content, but PG stands for Parental Guidance, and since teens and kids are not allowed on the Main Grid, what does PG mean?
Does it mean I have to call my "mommy" round to watch what I am doing, because I am pretty sure I am old enough to not have to call her round to my place so I can play SL.
I personally think PG should be renamed to Friendly, so we have Friendly and Mature, PG just makes no sense.
Discuss.

From: Robin Linden We used PG because it's familiar from the movie ratings. What it really means is that behavior that is permitted in mature regions -- overt sexuality, profanity -- is not allowed in these regions. Not because parental guidance is needed, but just because some people prefer to be in areas where they know they won't encounter behavior that makes them uncomfortable.
We used 18 as a cut-off because that's the typical defining age of adulthood (at least in the US - I know this may not be true in all countries). Because of the presence of mature areas and adult sexual behavior, and the inability for people to know real life information about the avatar, we want to protect both the adult and the minor from finding themselves in situations that are not only uncomfortable but also potentially illegal. Perhaps this explains it a bit.

If they renamed them "Friendly" and "Laggy Flashing Neon Malls and Clubs", it would continue to suit my purposes

Discuss. I think that Mature and Uptight would be more apropriate, personally.

I think 'Lions Gate' (Descent, Saw, Saw 2, etc) and 'Disney' would suit everyone.

Mature and Immature? Censored/Uncensored? (too porn-ish) Mature/Clean? Eh, I doubt we'll find a replacement for PG any time soon.

"Have fun and party" and "boring sod regions!" - those are my offerings for reclassification of the zones

I think "PG" should stay PG but "Mature" should become NR, just to dispel the irony of labeling adolescent fixations on sex and violence "Mature" content.

I suggested changing PG to Uptight, which is accurate enough. I also considered "Anal", but while descriptive, I think that the intent might have been taken amiss.

My question is... Why do people keep posting the same threads over and over again? There is a ability to search. It only takes a few key strokes.

They should rename the regions "friendly" and "really really friendly".

I'd say Mature (for what is PG now) and Adolescent (for what is Mature now), since that's how people in those areas generally behave.
I've seen as much sexual activity in PG as in M... and far more obviously underage behaviour in M. Sure, it was a good idea at the time, but it's kind of outgrown its usefulness now.

I don't understand why so much scorn is thrown at us adults who are mature enough to realise that sex and other 'adult' behaviour actually isn't that important after all, and actually find it possible to have a fun time in SL without flexiprim or talking genitalia, and running round looking for all the poseballs anyone can find.

I'm ok with the names as they stand as per movie ratings, and because they have more clarity standing alone. If we used PG and R the R rating will not be as easy to understand because the word "Rated:" does not pecede it in the menu bar. While we're here what if we were given more ratings options like GP, PG, NC-17, and XXX? BTW, PG is not being "uptight." My language when I'm in any mmog (game or forum) is already PG rated (though on SL forums I have innuendo, which seems pretty much a norm). I reserve mature language only for times when I'm with my friends iRL. I do very much appreciate being able to look out my bedroom windows (which span about 250 degrees of my view) and NOT see porn shop signs.
