Dual nVidia 7800 GTX 256mb PCI-X in SLI with a 19" LCD. On a laptop.

Sager 5950.

If that screen could do 1920x1200 instead of 1680x1050, I think I'd be ordering me one.

Isn't it, though? The specs make you swoon and the chassis goes right along with it. Hawt.

Only downside is it's almost 19" wide and weighs 15lbs. And I thought my laptop was big.

My current Sager 17" is about as big as I can handle, but it most be close to 20 pounds with the battery - that one is only 15 with battery. Go figure! It looks a tad skinnier too, but that might just be because of the bigger screen size.

The full size keyboard almost gets lost, hehehehe.

I don't understand why they'd make that and not have a 1920x1200 option. After getting my Dell XPS170 with the 1920x1200 option, and seeing how well that runs, why would a dual 7800 not offer that resolution? Am I missing something obvious?

If I recall from a previous thread, you have the same model laptop I do, and it's officially something like 11.3 lbs. Of course, that doesn't include the 80 lb. AC adapter and other accessories, but yanno. Personally my main draw is the SLI on the 5950, not seen that on a laptop before. I'd be just as happy if it was a 17" screen.

Give it a few months and they'll probably have a 1920x1200 option on it. 19" LCDs on laptops are a new gig, and they've probably just not got that model out yet. When I first bought mine a year and a half ago 17" were the new hot stuff and they only had 1680x1050 also, a few months later they came out with 1920x1200, which had already existed on the 15.4" displays before that.

I'm curious though, at what point are laptop monitors going to stop growing? 19" on a laptop? Yikes. Does that even qualify for the term laptop anymore? What's next? 21" laptops? At some point it has to become impractical, right? Maybe?

Yes 19" is really quite large for a latop isn't it. I'm not sure I could really go for something bigger than the 17" I've got, which already seems quite ridiculous for a laptop :D

How many sperm does it kill per hour when running SL whilst sitting on your lap? :D

Heh, a distinction I like to make for my 'laptop' is that it's 'portable', it's not 'mobile.' That is, you can pack it up and take it places easily, but you can't use it on the go. Also, on most of the Sager/ProStar/Voodoo/Clevo/Alienware/etc/ laptops like Flip and I have, the intake vents are all on the bottom of the chassis and exhaust out the sides and back, so if you tried to use it on your lap you'd probably end up burning up the laptop in addition to yourself.

That and the battery life doesn't exist. Still, if I was going to shell out that much for a laptop right now, I'd be more tempted to get the AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 model of the one I have now, with the 1920x1200 17" and single 7800 GTX 256mb.

We've got 2 children and that's more than enough, so if I can indulge my techno-love and also kill sperm in the process, that's fine and dandy by me :D The testicular cancer might be problematic though...

I have a alienware laptop which is made by sager, Runs SL better then most desktops I have seen. but these big powerfull laptops are more of a desktop replacement then a true laptop. My M7700 is about 16 pounds and only lasts about 45 mins to 1 hour under battery running with half cpu power. On the other hand I have 2 Hard drives in it as well as 1 DVD/Cd combo burner and one DVD burner in the pup. Aslo it pumps out about 140f of heat out of the left front vent so it gets real warm and toasty.
