Ok, I understand the no trans policy a lot of designers have. I have no issue with it at all. HOWEVER... It would be nice if they would at least post the fact that an item is no trans somewhere in the store. Many designers do this and to them-thank you, you will continue to get my business. To the rest-get on the ball! -Kiamat Dusk

But I only do that in shops that do not have any signs posted. And I only pay attention to transfer permissions if I am intending to give the purchase to someone else.

well personally i dont like the "no transfer" option, but i must do that when its a pack, with alot of colors of the same item, or people will give/sell the rest of the colors to someone else, and put in yardsales and sell for more money then the original creator is asking. :\

It sucks that most hair is no transfer now. I am stuck with a crapload of hair styles that I no longer use or want and I can't do anything with it. I would love to be able to just give it away to some new person that asks about "that cool curly hair" but I can't. It's just taking up space and I don't want to just have to trash it all.

What I hate is "no mod" on clothing items... I mean what purpose does it serve? It doesn't let you see the texture, all it does is keep you from changing the clothing sliders. For skirts especially this is an extreme inconvenience.

-Kiamat Dusk I think there is (was) a way to see that too, but it might have been a bug that's now been fixed - I sincerely don't remember.

Also sometimes all the items take on the properties of the box or a script in the box while looking at the contents. I've looked in ones and seen (no mod) (no copy) (no trans) before. Of course that's not accurate, just a fun permissions thing.

Personally, since I've started making a few things, I use one of two sets of permissions.
1. No copy/ modify/ transfer
This allows someone to make it a gift without me essentially handing out unlimited domain on giving it away.
2. Copy/ modify/ no transfer
This lets them keep multiple copies in seperate folders so room sets (and soon, outfits) don't have clothes moving back and forth because they are no copy. It lets people play with them as well, which is the reason I leave modify on most of my things. Its no secret how I build. This set does that without letting them give those unlimited copies out.
Just my two linden dollars

I absolutely agree that permissions should be stated clearly. I won't buy anything without knowing the permissions first. Unfortunately, having it posted clearly doesn't always work. I have the box art itself say No Transfer, the description field says (No Transfer), and there's a sign in the only entrance to my store that lists that all clothing items are Modify-Copy-No Transfer, and to contact me for gift permissions. I still get at least 10 messages a day from people who didn't know the items were No Transfer when they purchased them. 99 times out of 100 the people are polite and I have no problem giving them gift permissions when they ask me, but there's always that 1 with the "omfg u rip me of u dont say no give!" attitude that gets a less than customer-service oriented response. For those people, chiselling it on their genitals still won't clue them in to look for permissions on items before they buy them, or recognize that them being unobservant does not equal a merchant being shifty.

It's all from the book How To Win Enemies and Alienate People. I highly recommend picking it up, as soon as I write it. From: Rose Portocarrero Forget Siggy and Cristiano.... From: Kiamat Dusk Ok, I understand the no trans policy a lot of designers have. I have no issue with it at all. Similarly, I understand no-copy. But I wish people would explicitly state no-trans or no-copy (or no-mod for clothing) permissions ON the label ALL the time. (I'm playing with putting both a copyable and a transferrable version in the box)

I have seen various perms icons on some displays - an outstretched hand, circled for copy, circled and slashed (like a road sign) for no-copy, etc etc
Has any "standard" set of symbols started emerging? Should one? Do you have any icons you use and like and wouldn't mind others using?

For skirts especially this is an extreme inconvenience. I agree. Making clothing 'no mod', and then selling the same exact thing in 20 different colors is NOT going persuade me to buy all 20, or even 2, at full price. It very well could prevent me from buying the item at all, though.

While I agree with the original poster, I have the same problem in reverse. Frankly, I'm not sure what else to do. I have my permissions documented right at the beginning in the manual. I also explain why the permissions are set that way, and why I cannot do transfer, refund or exchange, and how to do gift purchases. I also use the regular "buy" semantics, so you can see that you're receiving a no-transfer item. Still, I get messages from people who claim they purchased my items with the intention of giving them gift. Personally, I wouldn't mind not having to answer these sorts of questions.
