well this isn't very good now is it?

I have been trying about 5 times to get onto second life but it loads SOOOOOO SLOOOOWLY and when it finally loads it lags so bad its uplayable!

whats going on? it was working fine an hour ago and now its uplayable! I hope its just a minor bug that will clear up in the morning...

would it be because my laptop is really hot? were talking REALLY hot, like if you put your hand on it for 5 mins it would be a bit red


how can I fix this?

I hear that when you have over L$5,000 it lags. Sometimes if you give a few k out to people whose name starts with an N, you lag less.

ya know, just because I have over 6000 linden doesn't mean i'm giving it out to people

Howdy Bane, though in the future you may want to post this kind of thing in "Current Version Feedback" as people there generally are better at trying to help with technical issues, I'll try my best.

You mention having a laptop, so first I'd need to get some questions answered:

1. Are you using wireless? Wireless sometimes means packet loss. Open up the statistics bar the next time you successfully log in and look at the packet loss. If it is anything other than 0.0, and particularly if it keeps changing, you probably have a problem with your connection.
   
2. How much memory do you have. Most people seem to say 1GB of RAM is needed under Windows. Obviously there are some running with less, and more (I have 2GB in my machine), but RAM seems to be a factor with client-side lag.
   
3. What kind of video does the machine have? Most laptops use far less powerful 3D technology than desktops, though some gaming rig types have the latest gen mobility chips from ATI or NVidia. Many people call slow screen updates "lag" when it is actually your machine not being powerful enough to run Second Life at your chosen resolution. Generally SL requires even more powerful 3D and other hardware to match the speeds you can get on current-gen games like F.E.A.R. on even less powerful hardware. I'm afraid that's just the reality of the current rendering engine in the SL client.
   

With some of these questions you may be able to determine some of the problems yourself, but I'd be happy to help any way I can with additional information.

Maybe that's the new trick of LL to handle underaged residents.

Ive had pretty bad lag since 1.10, but this morning IS weird. I am on a desktop, no wireless connection and no packet loss.

I have been stuck in some of the default animations, and the only cure is to relog, freezing, find that flying and walking is like wading through treacle with lead weights in my socks etc.

There is something up, I just don't know what.

I've been having issues this last few days with extreme lag and textures not loading Flying was a nightmare, with the object continuely dropping into the ground. The lag is worse now than it was before i doubled My RAM to 1 gig. It was fine a for a while once I upgraded, but now the lag is back with a vengance. I asked around several friends of mine, and they have been having the same issues. Emptying the cache gives short term releif from these symptoms.
