ive suggested this before but i have a tweak to it that i think will make it work.
ll should certify anyone who wants to upload textures that are transferrable. if you abuse the textures or have too many legitimate dmcas filed against you ... you lose certification (which you put up a bond for, btw).
but, you say, ll doesnt want to be in the judge and jury business ..... well, they can certify 3rd party resident certifiers and if too many complain (legitimately) about a certifier, than that certifier loses their license to certify people.
in many ways i think this is the solution to all manner of content abuses. it also makes a very very compelling case for having a central asset server. by controlling the choke point, you can keep the ip thiefs off the database and out of the economy.

Except that Linden Labs is looking for common carrier status, which means that their job is going to be to host services and provide legal information when properly subpoena'ed, not to certify people. I can see them banning individual client machines/avatars that they know to be used by IP thieves, though.

Not I. Well, the content creators would pay for this service. i don't think it would be too much of an issue though ... why bother stealing when you cant get away with it?

Fine by me. Just so long as I do not have to pay. Nothing personal, but I feel no need to pay for your BMW.

There will always be an issue. There will always be people who live outside the legal jurisdiction of the DCMA's practical enforceability. For example, people in China, India, Africa, and even some parts of Eastern Europe or South America. For them, there will always be an incentive to steal (if they so choose) because legal action against them is not practical.

i don't think it would be too much of an issue though ... why bother stealing when you cant get away with it? I'm a content creator. I wouldn't pay for it. I have helped people copy my designs, do you REALLY think I care if they get my textures? Let those who want protection pay but don't shut us all out.

I'm a content creator. I wouldn't pay. I have helped people copy my builds before - do you really think I care about textures? As long as I can comtinue to upload textures as is, I'm fine. I won't pay for cetification or any form of bond.
