Reminds me of a Japanese law which requires digital cameras / camera phones to make a loud beep when a picture is taken.

As long as the flash doesn't impact the picture, I think this is a reasonable approach to privacy.

having the picture taker see it doesn't aid privacy at all.

the animated picture sliding down looks like manure.

it's terrible. horrible.

Privacy? How will it aid privacy? It's not like knowing who is taking your picture will stop them from doing it.

Or they'll just do print screen or use the godmode tools (assuming they still work) to take a snapshot anyways.

Kinda nifty effect though.

It would aid privacy to some small degree by alerting you to the picture taking, allowing you to stop doing things you didn't want pictures taken of, checking to see who is in the vicinity and putting them on a ban list, and other such preventive measures.

Having the person who is taking the picture see a flash has no effect on privacy at all. It's visually annoying to me. With some of the visual problems people report here one would think they would try to accomodate people with different visual preferences. Being able to turn off various effects in an interface, such as windows menu animations and transition effects, is quite common in interface design.

I personally don't want to see a flash when other people take pictures. If they want to let me know they could have a discrete little symbol appear in the title bar like the no-build and no-script symbols do. Double-clicking on that could give you the name of the picture taker, if they are really concerned with protecting privacy. Or the word "Snapshot!" could could appear over the head of the avatar taking a snapshot.

There is an animation of a picture dropping down that occurs when you refresh the snapshot. This animation effect has no bearing at all on privacy. It looks ugly to me and will greatly decrease the pleasure of snapshot taking.

Screen capture by printscreeen or other methods circumvent SL's snapshot process and render the privacy protection useless.

If there is a reason why there shouldn't be an option to not see the flash when you take a picture and not see the animated dropping down effect when refreshing the snapshot I fail to see it.

What is nifty about having the whole screen go white? It looks more a video card defect that a nifty effect.

It's my understanding that the new version allows us to freeze time before taking a snapshot. So we can then take snaps from many angles all representing the same instance in time. Personally, I think it's an awesome effect/feature! Of course, once someone freezes time on their end.. there isn't much you can do to stop doing what you're doing, TP away, or anything else to avoid being snapped. But I'm not one to care about being photographed, and there's a way to prevent yourself from being photographed already... by an island, make it invisible, and ban everyone but yourself.

I guess I should check the preview to make sure I'm correct about the new freeze-frame and grab multiple angles capability, cause I could be completely wrong.

As soon as you move your camera after you take a snapshot, even if you haven't made a choice to save or discard it, the snapshot falls away (I'm really not feeling that animation either) and you're back to the regular screen.

I'm finding the entire new snapshot feature to be a little buggy, so everyone pile in and file your bug reports :D

Nope the whole scene is frozen. So you can taka another shot from a different angle but in the same instance.

Having a white simulated flashbulb effect on the screen of the person taking the picture is not a part of the new functionality. It is useless window dressing. Same for the animated dropping away of a being discarded view.

I'm not in this thead objecting to the new functioning, just to useless visual gimmicks that don't add to the new functionality but are there because somebody in the design team likes gimmicks and frillery.

How are you making that work? As soon as I move my camera I'm back to the regular view as opposed to the still snapshot view. I'll do some more testing, maybe there's another way to do it?

I just click snapshot, and my avs and everything else just is frozen. Don't have to do anything special.

Right, I get that far too, but if I wanted to take another snapshot of the same scene from a different angle...when I move my camera the shot falls away and its not frozen anymore. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you guys are talking about.

Yeah, I don't really like it too much. Kinda distracting.
