Slow Rezzing

I noticed last night that everything was extremely slow rezzing. When I would teleport back to my land or try to drop an object in the house it remained grey for a very long time. Also I dropped into the sims that Damani has and it kept locking me up and had to reboot several times. I cleaned out my SL cache a couple of times and still had the problem. Was it SL or do I need to do more cleaning of the computer and defrag again.

I am using the following computer:

Dell 8400
2 ghz of ram
250 ghz hard drive
GeForce 6800 GTO graphics board with 512 megs of RAM
3.4 ghz board
DSL with 1.5 gigs up and down

I was having similar problems in a number of sims last night and this morning. Even in low-populated sims. While this won't help you with objects, a couple days ago some friends told me a cool trick to help people rez quicker in situations like this. Just right click on yourself and enter Appearance mode for a few seconds. You'll see your own clothes appear right away if you don't see them already, and other people will too.

Last night I was sim-hopping with 2 friends and we had to enter Appearance mode each time we ported somewhere, because our textures simply weren't loading (and I'm talking not loading within 2 minutes). Before we started doing this, my girlfriend actually took off her clothes so I wouldn't feel embarrassed being the only one naked, but I was actually fully clothed! She just couldn't see it.

I cleared my cache too...

At teh risk of sounding flippant, this usually happens to me when my connection is flaky. Sometimes my modem, router or PC needs rebooting. Sometimes it's just a slow, busy day on the segment all my Internet traffic is creepy crawly.

You'll get more constructive responses to your question if you ask that the thread be moved to Technical Support. That's what they tell us anyway.

Sorry Khamon Fate is a moderator/admin and you are not allowed to ignore him or her.

Well now, that stinks.

Hey Khamon? Care to do the community a favour and just add a few lines in your sig about your distaste for Resmods in general and moving threads in particular? Thanks.

Or I could just stop altogether. It's a senseless campaign to try to make sense of all this anyway isn't it.

Thanks to everyone

Khamon, Thanks, that is one I had not thought about doing. My ISP had told me to unplug my DSL modem once in a while and reset it. Glad you mentioned it. Will do that tonight before I turn the pc on. Will also clear all temp files and defrag, it was been a while. Thanks also to Wildfire! I sort of figured it may be a problem with sl as well. Will try that too. Hopefully the next update will "clear-up" some of the problems (Keeping fingers crossed)...lol

The thing is, Khamon is actually doing a far better job than any of the supposed ResMods. The moderation hasn't gotten better, just more arbitrary and ridiculous.

You know something? I don't disagree.

Rather the reverse, but I wouldn't mind getting through 4 posts of a thread before it turns into Khamon's opinions on resmods/thread moving. Were I or anyone interested in a thread moving thread we'd make one and post to it. But this, "here is a thread about AI prim puppies in SL", "Oh I love prim AI puppies, but wouldn't this be better in the AI prim puppy forum? I'm so confused."-business is wearing.

I wouldn't have posted if I could have actually just ignored him, but apparently I cant.

It's all about thread moving and the obviously arbirtary lack of method with which it's being done. I've nothing against the resmod program in general, in fact, I volunteered when it was first announced.

I feel your pain, I'm sick of reading formulaic replies in the Hotline and can't put given Linden posters on ignore. But never fear, I am retired and will now return you to your regular programming.

I agree, all things in moderation (no pun intended). Seeing it in every thread does get tiring. Then again, seeing resmods spout off multiple paragraphs in a thread and even partake in a thread that clearly does not belong in the current forum is also getting old. I've given up worrying about it - if Linden Lab wants to turn these forums into even more of a joke, 'tis their perogative. I at least applaud Khamon for trying to illustrate just how stupid it all is, whether moderated by Linden employees or volunteers.

PS - that reminds me, SL hired the person who did the dog AI in There - it is one of the few things about There I found really impressive. I hope ultimately we get more sophisticated AI abilities and a skeletal system to support pets.

I'll give him that, he has made his point handily and again I don't disagree with it. In fact I agree with you both.

Really then? Hmm, hadn't heard that but sounds terribly interesting. ^.^ Would dearly love to give my lil' drones more of a range and faux personality... or at least more than their mum's. ^.-

I did not mean to cause trouble or drama, I just asked a question. I'll be more careful from now on where I post a question. Again, I'm sorry.

Artificial Intelligence

the wonderous technology, which isnt really intelligent, that allows bad guys in video games to run at you, play chess vs a computer, or have your robotic dog like aibo take a virtual crap on your carpet !

You didn't cause any drama, don't worry about it - this actually has nothing to do with you, and your question was perfectly valid.

Memir,

Here is a thread about Jeffrey Ventrella, the person I spoke of.

Don't you worry about the drama George ... you are not at fault.

There was a problem with the asset server last night. I was having trouble compiling and saving scripts (Cypa sim) and so I sent a message to Altruima. She said that they were working on a problem with the asset server that also was effecting teleports. About a half hour later everything seemed to be working fine.
