I was over in there.com tonight relisting some of my auctions when I stumbled upon a "designer" (gd theif) who had managed to lift a great amount of my work and pass it off as her own. I just wanted to give you all a heads up for your own good. I know this one isn't so much a LL issue but it is something that concerns those of us who are being affected by it. I absolutely did see that this person had also stolen the work of at least one other creator from sl.com. I do understand that, like myself, sometimes creators work in numerous online worlds but because this person clearly stole my work, my guess is the other designs i saw over there were stolen as well. You just might want to run over there and surf the auctions a bit.

People have been stealing textures from There for years, also.

Is that the reason to avoid "There.com"?

Janie, if you feel that strongly about it, file a proper, well documented, DMCA complaint and submit it to LL. LL does not act until a properly made complaint is received.

No reason to avoid there.com. I actually really enjoyed it for quite some time. This thread wasn't started to get people angry or just so I could complain out loud. All I wanted was for other creators to be aware so they can take a look for themselves if they like. I have filed the forms and no, not to LL as this isn't about LL so much as it is about individuals and their rights as creators to be aware.

Anyone wanna gues how many of the "original" textures I have seen in here were in another 3D chat years before SL existed? Kinda like the pot calling the ketle black. You canot claim a texture you Dled from a website is original work just because you took the time to upload it. The ONLY original textures are ones you hand paint yourtself. and I have only seen as many people as I can count on one hand doing that in SL in over a year here now.

Thankyou for the heads up Janie. How do you find the auctions to check for your items?I've never been to There. Is it an in game thing or something you can view on the web like say Exchange?

From: Janie Marlowe I have filed the forms and no, not to LL as this isn't about LL so much as it is about individuals and their rights as creators to be aware. I see. But might as well still submit a set to LL so that they can act on it at least on the local front. Sadly the issue of creative work theft will not end for a long time or maybe not ever be it static art, text, movie, or audio. This is simply because the technology used for copying continues to advance but the media used for art stopped advancing. Sound is sound and visuals are visuals both completely transformable by many means to digital form. Add in that many are willing to use imperfect copies.

There accounts are free just like SL's. Only difference is you cant buy or sell anything on a basic account. But you can browse anything and everything.

There are a lot of textures in SL from other sources, yes. I would assume Janie is talking about textures she created herself. If that is the case, your "pot calling kettle black" comment is simply rude.
