I had the weirdest dream lastnight, it was about SL...I do that alot, but this one was differemt... In my dream we had just got a new update and after downloading it, there were no release notes... all there was, was a giant INSTALL button...
Anyways we all installed SL and no one could figure out what the new update was for and Lindens weren't responding (think it was a surprise)... then I went to go IM a friend to ask them if they knew, and Next to there Name were 2 Buttons... IM and TALK, I tried the talk button and a window popped up with a mute and volume control... OMG we had voice in SL! You were allowed up to 5 people and only those that were Invited could hear and speak... It was so awesome!
So, who would like this? Think we will get something similar anytime soon?

Voice functions in SL Might add realism, might break the realism. I mean it's implemented in UT2004 and all you get are 12 year old kids singing kareoke and screamig swear words when they don't get thier own way. Will the same happen to SL? And well, all those female avas with male voices *shudder*. The illusion of a second life will be lost. My 2 cents. |

Would it also be a good idea if we couldn't 'understand' what the person is trying to say too?
What if they spoke a different language?

I'd like it. Sometimes voice messages can be much more clear than text messages. Things like sarcasm never come across in text. Not that I'm sarcastic, ever.

Well, I play a multi-gendered avatar, and DJ for a radio station in game. I've known lots of others with female avatars with male voices (hearing them DJ). Really, I don't care about voice, VOIP or any of that. I see the avatar, not the hairless ape at the keyboard.
I honestly think that this is a very nice idea, but would add another layer of complexity on top of an unstable house of cards.
