Ok this is pissing me off. First of all, reading the release notes for the new update it seems that LL is giving people who have the money to pay out for monthly fees control against people that work for minimum wage. Giving land owners the option to block entry to people without payment information on hand. First of all, i don't have the money to put out to a paypal account. Because of that, i might not be allowed access to my favorite club? Or worse, i find a person with land rights and get them to let me in (if their on). If i'm wrong please someone set me straight. Cause if i'm right then someone has finally lost it to the stereotype that free account are a bad thing. have a free account. That doesn't mean that i'm going to go off and make an object to crash the system! I like this game! Why would i want to hinder its ability to entertain me?! LOL. It seems like this update makes a generalization that all free accounts might attack the grid. And thats just not true.

Land owners have always had the right to ban people or limit acess to a parcel.

Chill.

As one of the "verified" I have to say that you are quite welcome on my land. I rather expect that the vast majority will think the same way - the inverse makes little sense.

And for the very few who might do such a thing... Well, may they get poor and disappear nice and fast. :)

This little bit of oddness on LL's part will likely go away eventually. It simply isn't useful, and (as you clearly see) it only generates hard feelings. Not at all conducive to survival as a business, ¿que no?

The very worst way to make your case is to overstate it.

1) Free accounts are not a bad thing.

2) You don't have to pay monthly fees in order to become verified. All you have to do is enter into a financial exchange with the Lindens for some small amount. Just once. Boom, you're verified.

3) Even if most of the Adult Content providers ban unverified accounts (which really is the only smart way for them to stay in business with a clear conscience), there are still plenty of non-adult and PG rated areas in the mature grid to explore if you don't want to pay the Lindens $1 for 350 or so $L. It's voluntary, just accept that a "no" carries it's limitations. If you can live without the sex clubs and scripted penises and escorts, there's nothing to worry about.

I agree Jill..... my land has noone banned at the moment... I just dont see the need personally.

Mind you, it is damage enabled and i collect guns.

It isn't that people want to do such things as restrict their plots to "verified only" status; it is simply that is the only solution that LL is willing to give us to ameliorate a problem that they previously had better control over: griefing and abusive players.

The scenario we have now is this:

1) Griefer Bob 1 shows up on your isle/land parcel and proceeds to ply his trade, from orbiting you and your other visitors, to crashing the sim, to mouthing racial epithets and other forms of intolerant speech. You ban him from your land. One less griefer, or so you think.
2) Five minutes later, Griefer Bob 2 shows up on your Isle, and picks up where he left off. You ban the new account.
3) Another five minutes later, Griefer Bob 3 shows up, and continues the assault. You try to ban him again, but find that you can't as your 50 ban slots are already full of Griefer Tom, Griefer Dick, Griefer Harry, etc and their 10 attempts each to evade your authority to abate their fun.
4) Finally, in desperation, you turn to the one thing you have been given by LL to try and bring some peace and calm back to your home, block unverified accounts. You don't want to do it, but what choice is there? Your visitors are already leaving, sick and tired of being orbited or listening to someone's vulgar display of behavior that you apparently cannot do anything about.

There are some who might just go ahead and set their land up from the start to block unverified access, simply as a method of prevention. Yes, it is unfortunate, but considering what we are being given to work with, who can blame them?

One final note about the "income" from unverified accounts: there will be precious little, on average. Unverified accounts don't get stipends, and can't buy money on the LindeX. Their only source of money will be things like camping chairs, money trees, philanthropists, or maybe, eventually, payment for work. That's not a bad thing, by any stretch of the imagination, but it does mean less overall income versus a verified account.

I could see using the on file payment on days griefing got really bad. You don have to pay LL a dime just provide some means of tracing your back, which is more than 99% of alt-griefers are probably going to bother with, and it shouldn't inconvenience any existing residents
