So we've hit 5,000 oncurrent users a few times the past few weeks.

I'm starting a prediction thread for when we hit 10,000 conncurrent.

For my sake:
April 2nd 2006.

My money is on the grid melting under the strain way before the 10,000, if last nights lagathon was anything to go by.

When logging in on Sat. there was even a message while it was precashing..."Servers are under extreme load!"

Do you mean pre-cacheing or pre-crashing?

If I wasn't RL brok from moving to new apartment I'd go down to the local Server Supply outlet and buy LL some more hamsters.

FTLOG, People! Get a premium account so LL can afford better hamsters!

I know it's hard to believe, but lag is usually client side.

Repeat after me:

"The grid will not melt with 10k users. The grid will not melt with 10k users. The grid will not melt with 10k users."

Agreed. The Asset Server All Hail The Central Asset Server simply, obviously can't support any larger concurrent population than we have now. I wish they'd let some of their resident experts help. They could deed it to a group and let us work on it that way. That'd be fairly secure wouldn't it?

My PC more than exceeds the specifications required, and I'm on an 8mb internet connection.

Not sure what else I can do.

Here's a link to Lee Linden's definative guide to lag.

This is also a good thread. Not sometimes type 3 (network lag) is not occuring on your end, or on LL's end, but somewhere in the middle.

Most of the issues I seem to be suffering are related to retrieving textures and them not cacheing properly, which I understand I'm not alone with either.

It's more like here; but who can afford the double paycut working for LL fulltime after having to move to SF? It's a demanding position too. You have to be doubly proficient with Perl.

I'm talking about oh nm. It's not worth the effort.

I thought that would probably be the job too, but it appears to have an emphasis on reporting and statistics. God knows they have tons of data to play with and analyze. I guess ETL (Extraction, Transformation & Loading of data) could indeed be the asset server. Data warehouses are usually used for analysis. I've never worked with one that wasn't.
