Ok, before i get really upset and go off on a rant, i wanna know,
Am i missing something on how to actually just take simple snapshots in world now?
Can i turn off that annoying flash? can i set the snapshot to NOT take up the entire screen preventing me from doing anything else until i decide to keep of not keep teh pic?
Can i just set the settings (which i like) in the menu and not deal with a default setting to send a postcard? PLEASE let me know as many know i tend to take a lot of pictures (hmm maybe this is teh point...make it more annoying so i don't) but as of now i probably won't be taking very many with this new system because it is not worth the hassle. :(

Haven't really looked yet, but this is the first thing I thought. I just want a small preview pic.

Preview testers loudly complained about these snapshot limitations and problems. It seems they were not listened to. The update was pushed anyway, albeit delayed for a week.

The blurriness is because the snapshot size defaults to 128x128.

I cranked mine up to 512.

I haven't found a way to get rid of full screen preview or the flash.

I really dislike full screen preview.

Clio, once you choose a different setting other than email pic, it will remember that choice on next pic, same with image size (quality) setting.

I cant seem to figure out a way for it to save my defaults, I set it to 512x512 which is what i want and YAY and all that but then if I close the dang thing I keep having to start out with it being 128x128 :| I am playing with it alot right now , I think having more options to the snapshots is great but I just wish they would save our options so we didnt have to keep inputting them .

YES! options are wonderful!
And turthfully i like most of them, but
it seems that LL's way to introduce options is to make a default that is the furthest out there and then option it back to useable sorta backwards in my opinion

I just posted about this in the Linden Answers section - this new feature blows. I can't understand why they keep wasting time on things that aren't broken, instead of concentrating on the crappy stuff that we already have plenty of. I'd rather they make the texture cache actually work, so it doesn't take minutes to reload the ground textures when I return to a place I just left, for but one example.

The interface for snapshots is now completely screwed up - no interactivity, annoying flash and peel affects, no spontaneity and to top all that off, regardless of resolution and quality settings there is a decided blur to all the images.

I think that sums it up pretty well. "Snapshot" implies a quick and dirty picture taken on the spur of the moment. Easy to take, easy to toss. This new setup is like...actual photography. Which has its place, don't get me wrong, but you don't lug around your supercool Canon with the 40 lenses to take candid shots or those "ZOMG LOOK AT THAT poof its gone" photos.

It would be nice if there was a place for both in the UI...Snapshots and Photographs. (But the flash is still annoying as hell)

Yea i have to agree here i think they need to add a simple quick and easy snap shot option. other then That I honestly am loving the new snapshot options. I like that we can choose among different sizes this will be very handy for taking pictures of my clothing designs . as it was i always wanted just a bit more resolution in the snap shot but never used the high rez snap shot cause that was simply to big a file size.

The changes made to the snapshot feature are the worst I have seen in SL. Please, please get rid of this new system.

Which new Linden is graphics flash happy..flash with the snapshot and the incredibly annoying pie chart flash.

Can you believe SL was actually down 6 hours for these changes...they are terrible.

That sums it up even better. I've become a bit of a Snapzilla addict over the past couple of weeks, and the way I could just leave the small preview dialog box open after taking a shot -- until I had time to fill the postcard information in -- was VERY convenient. It meant the snapshot facility wasn't intrusive, allowing me to INSTANTLY continue with what I was doing. Needless to say, my Snapzilla use has gone from taking half a dozen snaps an hour to zero....which is a shame, because just recently, I've found it to be a brilliant social tool.

It sometimes feels like a couple of LL developers are having ideas like this and saying ZOMG THEY'LL LOVE THIS. When really...a bit of professional consultation -- beyond just asking preview users what they think -- wouldn't have hurt before implementing such a drastic GUI change that is ultimately, LESS intuitive than what was there before.

50% of my photographs are saved to my hard drive, and the rest are saved to my inventory as Photos. It seems that now I have only three options, unless I am missing something: to send a photo as a postcard (I wonder how often that will be used) to save to hard disk or to pay $L10 to save a photo as a texture.

I find it difficult to believe that the Lindens actually mean to charge you $L10 for taking a picture.

YES that is my wish , Honestly i like most of teh new options but i want them to be OPTIONS not shoved down my throat with no option for it to be a "snapshot" why is is so flippin hard to add stuff as a option instead of making everyuthing as complicated a sthey can then go back and add options to turn off things? I just don't get it
This has seriously depressed me , i feel as i have lost my one creative outlet in SL
and for me it is not a matter of "just getting used to it" it is not possible to do get teh shots i used to under the new system

And what really bites is that the preview users thought it sucked. New features are nice... when you put thought into them. I don't like the flash. I hate it. I also hate the "full screen preview." It gets in the way of Second Life and I am NOT going to stop and take that moment to twaddle the setting when I'm taking a snapshot to have as extra evidence for an AR.

My completely manual Cannon camera is more useful and intuitive than the new snapshot system. I want to keep my settings, snap and go. I don't want to have to tell it, "Look, I want it this size and all that. I want to set it and forget it, hitting that snapshot button when possible. I dread the next time I have to do a photoshoot.

I think said "Flashy" Linden is having a really bad acid trip.. I heard that seeing flashes is a side effect? (Gah, now I am gonna wind up mentally renaming all the Lindens, Smurf Style! Torley is of course, the Watermelon Linden.)

(For the Lindens) When you add a new feature, keep the old settings as a default. Let the users decide what they want to do from there. It keeps the cursing and headscratching down to a minimum. Make the new fluff optional *coughflashphotopeelcough*, if it doesn't have a thing to do with the actual function of the feature.

Snapshot previews at high resolution are pixelated because I *think* it's being stretched from 1024x1024. So if your screen is bigger than those dimensions, you'll notice degradation. The *actual* picture you save tho, exhibits none of that fuglyness.

Just a little note that a guide to using the new Snapshot Preview is here:
Capture the Moment: Guide to the New Snapshot Preview
http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=176
and that if the flash/peel effects bug you, you can just use File menu > Snapshot to Disk or the even quicker Ctrl-` shortcut to save snapshots WITHOUT going through any of that process. It's way faster ok.

Also yes I am painfully aware of numerous requests for the OLD BEHAVIOR, including myself because I really don't like how it's freezing me! I like to dance, I like to sing, I trot around while snapshotting. So it's just weird. :p

Thanx for your suggestions all. Forwarding them onward!

And o I take them heartfully, as one of the biggest complainer Lindens (some don't believe me but the world is weird) there is, I could not agree more, and in addition of course, I have ideas inspired by what I've learned here to make things better.
