Not sure where this should be, sorry if in the wrong forum. Just an observation, hopefully it might help some of you that have lost things. I dont know how this happens and I cant reproduce it, but I have found many things for people this way.
When people attempt to move a box from inventory to the floor, it sometimes winds up missing. It is not transparent or under the floor, it is simply not there. I have been finding things like this IN THE CONTENTS of the floor they attempted to set the box on.
The floor always belongs to the same person, so it does not appear this would happen at a store or in a floor you dont own. It is tricky seeing the contents of a linked set. If you edit a linked house, for example, you wont see all the contents. You have to use "edit linked parts" and click the individual piece to see the contents of each piece.
Like I said, Im not sure how this happens, but since I discovered it DOES happen, I have found a lot of stuff for people this way. So, if this lost item scenerio sounds familar, take a look in the contents of the surface you were working on, it just might be there.

Ahhh I hope this thread isn't lost, good flagging Loki--I've done this myself! I've known it to happen if I DO have an object's Contents up and I accidentally drag from inventory into it, but don't notice until later. I suppose that's very obvious. I know this has also happened with Resis and textures they meant to apply.

Loki I experienced something similar today.... rezzed a box on the floor of my home, chose a texture, clicked select.... and the texture was gone. I found it in the contents of the box.. Very peculiar

The only booger about it is that if you forget to take the texture back out of the box and delete the box then proceed to empty your trash....that texture is gone from your inventory for good

Yeah you are right... I'm glad I found that out in time before I deleted the box

I ran across this just yesterday. A customer bought a product from me and attempted to rez it, and the product disappeared. After we talked for a minute I found out that they had attempted to rez it by dragging the entire FOLDER containing the object and accompanying support objects/notecards out into the world. I had never tried that before, so I did, and when you drag a folder out it does an inventory drop, it doesn't rez it. So I teleported over and helped them locate the product in one of their floor prims and dig it out.

This is also a function of control-dragging, ya?

Objects in Floor
01-27-2006 14:15
When I had the Club on Elite Island, I was always finding things in the floor. In particular, shoes and jewelry. People would attempt to make adjustments while wearing them and move them into the fllor and presto, gone. Also, attempting to "drop" and inventory item or folder on a dancing AV and missing. One might be able to avoid this by either wearing the box or attaching the box and then doing a drop.

"What's hidden in our floor boards" lol. I don't know why I never considered that but it makes sence. *Note to self, lock all floorboards after I hide the bodies

Thanks for the tip Loki! I usually throw prims by accident all the way across the Sim and lose them. But some things I swear just disapeared! I'll be sure to check all my floors!!
