So I started building... and I really feel like a "newbie" with this. I've recently created a bunch lamps, and plan on expanding into other household accosories.

What I need for you, oh forum great ones, is your opinon. Am I pricing these too high? not enough? etc...

I am posting this in general since the classifieds are no reply. This is not a "bump" by any means, just would really like some feed back.

Below is the link to the orginal post in classifieds.

Thanks for all the respond

I use what is called the OTA pricing method.

Honestly, it is fast, easy, and has worked astonishingly well in Second Life.

You can read about it in this article, http://www.fastcompany.com/online/68/pricing.html - It's about 2/3 the way down, under this heading: THE NEW SCIENCE OF PRICING: TEST AND TEST AGAIN.

You'll truly appreciate the speed and effectiveness when you understand what the initials OTA mean.

Furthermore, I have been able to easily identify some other people using the same method, and most of them do fairly well.

Good luck in business :)

Wonderful stuff Sydney! You have some unique designs with great details. I don't think your price is too high ... but you might want to shop around and see what other lamps are going for.

Keep up the great work!

I think that's perfectly fine for a lamp. Would I buy a lamp, no :). but I'm not your target demographic. You should be able to sell your lamp if it's a good design, for roughly that amount to a large cross section of the sl public.

::snort:: yes I use OTA pricing. Trully, it is the quickest method ;).

I only knew what one competitor was charging when I started pricing things, and so I undercut them slightly, very slightly.

Actually... an sl marketting firm would be awsome. A reputable business with the ability, work ethic and desire to take someone's product, get it known and figure out pricing.

The reputable part is why it hasn't been done yet :). Trusting someone with content/linden's in sl is a fools bet. I would certainly pay a percentage of my profits to a group that could do that. I hate looking for stores, creating posters, figuring out what to charge, etc and so forth. This has been thought of before but has yet to be done largely and successfully. SecondServer.net and SLExchange are examples of tools towards this end, but not services in the all inclusive way I mean. Someone like that pricing lady who goes around and prices clothing in sl, store by store, shop by shop might be a valuable employee for a marketting group. I want graphs, charts, and statistical analysis. I want placement, target audience, and an im saying we've found a shop were we want to sell your things, We have the store content made, come place your vendors/boxes, on the X. I'm assuming any company/group that can fill that roll is also capable of figuring out what percentage I should and would be willing to pay ;).

I have a lighting store. When I started out I was selling things for around 20-35L$. I sell everything for one linden now and I make more money. People just go nuts buying lighting and sometimes I can't believe how much a single person will buy.

Of course, your lighting may be way better than mine; I cannot judge.

Malana Spencer has a lighting store, you might go take a look.

does it turn on or glow, or just sit there and look pretty?
does it use particles? if so how much?
what is the glow radius?
does it use a tacky "light cone" like some street lamps I have seen?
do you pay attention to materials?
how many prims?

or care to post a picture in here? (is that possible?)

you can use these to help judge.
oh and don't forget permissions

They glow i guess, if you have shin turned on in your preferances they reflect the light from the setting sun, looks really cool. No particles, (lag!) glow radius? umm the lamp, it doesn't eluminate the whole room, or corner, if there's a script out there that does that someone please tell me. ( i looked all over the scripting library for scripts to use in them, and the don't seem to do much except change color texture.)
Tacky "light cone"? not sure what you mean here, of course I don't think my work is tacky, but what do I know lol.
Yes of course i paid attnetion to materials used, the shade is glass, and the middle, and base are metal.
How many prims? refer to the link I posted in the first post in this thread.

Pics? again refer to that link. I posted that way so I wouldn't be double posting the same post in 2 differant threads, (that anoys ppl, as it would me) so please use the link I provided.

Thanks for all your questions.

Go to object and make the material of the shade "light." Alternately, check full bright under texture--I guess that would reduce lag. It would make the lampshade appear to be lit, but not make it produce light surrounding it with local lighting turned on.

I don't know, maybe that is the "tacky light cone" that someone referred to! Well, it's either that or particles and that would indeed be laggy.

LOL opps, the shades are infact 'light' not glass, and the full bright is checked. =p
