not so long ago Philip declared that the safeguard from fraud was reputation. In a world of anonymity, some how people would care enough about their SL credibility to behave ethically. then rather than expandin the reputation system, LL removed it entirely because the Lordfly Digeridoos of the world were sad when they had a lower build rating than the club lickers. then LL closed down discussion in the product forums.
how can the player community disseminate information and form consensus without having access to the sum of individual personal matters? it can not.
naming names? bring it on!

Well, while this may be a discussion of.. Sorts.. I disagree.
I don't think, when Philip said that, that he meant people should head straight for the forums and shame people.. But word of mouth travels quick between friends. If you get a product you don't think is up to scratch, you may well tell people about it in world. However naming names on the forum is still a no-no. Unless in, uhh, what is this? I thought about this just last night. Indeed, without the equivalent of a Better Business Bureau in SL, how does a new member (or even a seasoned veteran) know which businesses are not reputable--which ones will cheat you, which ones will sell you shoddy products, which ones will take your money and run? One possible answer to this question is its reverse--which businesses are reputable, which ones are known for quality products, which ones go out of their way to make sure that customers are satisfied? Negative commentary about business practices (especially in the forums) generate a great deal of heat but little light. _____________________
