NOTE: Clearly people just read thread titles and respond off the cuff without reading the message. That explains a lot of the incoherence in responses. So here it is, the new updated thread title. Now respond to this one without reading. LOL

Original Message:
This is a request to everyone who is willing to spare an hour a week at least to volunteer in the sandboxes just like I did this week. As a volunteer your duties will include:

1-answering basic build questions
2-helping with griefer objects evasion, cleaning etc
3-diplomacy diplomacy diplomacy
4-handing out freebies to people who need them or pointing them towards the lots with the freebies theyneed
5-Helping newbies

Optional Tasks:
1-Keeping a running list of regular griefers
(When I say regular griefers I mean those who are specifically shooting people day after day despite the fact that people have warned and talked to them about it) Don't compile a list of everyone who sets off a fireworks. :-)

A few Catches:
1-You may not use anything that orbits, shoots, pushes or any other way physically retaliates.
2-You may not sell anything or push products other than those that are (free collision detector)
3-You can only use AR on very rare occasion only when attacked personally.
4-Must be willing to bring chair, collision detect script, and an anti-push script is optional but desirable.

You can find me at one of the 3 main sandboxes any given day volunteering. Look for the Sandbox HelpDesk sign on a rectangular build. I put about 2 hours max each day. Today I went crazy and put around 6 but that wont happen again with my work schedule.

So who else is interested?

Troy

PS. I have signed up for Mentor Volunteering at the SL site since I originally sent this message. If there are other mentors volunteering in the sandbox please let me know.

Troy, I occassionally put on my shields and venture into the gritty harsh world that is the Cordova and Goguen sandboxes.

It seems generally peaceful and I help folks occassionally if I hear anyone asking... and check in on people sometimes if they're less than 2 weeks old in SL.

I nver wear my mentor tag any more while doing this.

When I *do* wear my mentor tag, gunfire aimed in my direction is easily 5+ times more common... it would almost seem that volunteers are frowned upon or even unwanted in sandboxes.

Just an FYI. I can't figure out why, maybe people just like pushing their luck firing at Lindens or volunteer staffers.

Only times I go to the sandboxes are to test an unusually large object of mine, or a mild morbid curiosity in seeing how long it'll take for me to get shot.

So far I've gone about once a week for the last year, and the shooting goes no longer than 10-15 minutes.

I think mentors are often considered to be like highschool 'hall monitors' nowadays. I doubt this is a good thing though. But it's the effect of trying to moderate and keep the peace, I guess. People tend to shun 'authority', especially the volunteer kind.

Those other times aren't quite 'tests.' And what *has* milady been telling you about my unusually large objects?

Actually, after your original post about the sandboxes, I spent a whole afternoon in them. It was an experience, sure, but it was kind of fun. I passed out freebie clothes boxes to the nekid; I always im'd them first to make sure they actually wanted them. And I sat in my chair building away, and answering questions for those that wandered by. Most people just asked honest questions, and where glad to find someone around that they could actually ask. I did not wear any kind of tag, but people did come by and ask me things anyway. As for the griefers, sure a couple of them were hell bent on firebombing the place repeatedly. I simply followed them around to see who they were, then im'd them about stopping it. They didn't really have any permanent affect, but at least they stopped it for awhile. That's probably the best you can do in a sandbox right now. Anyway, it was kind of fun, and I'll surely do it again in the future.
