This is a question about streaming video.
I have plenty of videos, but I want to stream them on my land. I have no clue how to convert to .mov or if .mov is the right file! I have a webspace to host it, but everyone says I need a server, I try to set up a server... but I have no clue what I'm doing. Is there a tutorial or something of the sort around? I've checked the forums but no one seems to know what they're doing... Thanks... :[

Hey Jack,

*.mov files should be just fine, that's Quicktime's file extension.

If you have webspace to host it, you'll be able to stream it into SL....BUT!
  1. if you're streaming an entire movie, that's going to eat up your allotted bandwidth REALLY fast. Check and see how much bandwidth you're allowed to use for the month.
  2. some hosting companies will put a limit on amount of info you're allowed to upload to your website in one shot - I've had larger files time out during the FTP process.
  3. you also have a limit of how much space your hosting provider gives you. A big movie or two can put you over the limit if you have a cheaper plan.
...Which is probably why people are telling you to use a server - a dedicated hosting plan specifically for streaming large movie files. Ask your hosting company what options they have available for something like that.
