Are we allowed to say that some of the resmods in the the current pool have forgotten that they're just like us and subject to being petty, subjective, and jerkfaces, or do such opinons render this post subject to internal review due to reporting by ResMods who have forgotten that they're just like us and subject to being petty, subjective, and jerkfaces?

as an aside: if i say "SOME RESMODS CAN NOT SEEM TO RECONCILE THE ABILITY TO REPORT WITH THE NEED TO", or if i were to say "HEY RESMODS, IT'S A LONG TERM PROJECT YOU DON'T NEED TO CHECK EVERY POST AND TRY TO FIND A WAY TO SHOW IT'S AGAINST BIG SIX, YOU'LL STILL PROBABLY HAVE YOUR UNPAID JOB TOMORROW" - would a comment like that be sent to off-topic or get me a notification? I'm trying to figure out if the rules have changed, or if the rulers have. Thanks!

And curiously, I did not apply to be one, and feel that anbody who applied to be one and now has a problem with its implimentation is a hypocrite or worse.

Seems to me the res-mod thing might actually be working considering the speed with which you guys are jumping on your own swords tonight. :)

Feel free to apply for the newly created, but as yet untested and undesigned, ResModResMod program which will be keeping track of the ResMods. Resident Moderators will be keeping tabs on the ResMods in an ongoing effort to make sure they stay in line. There will be batons and fancy uniforms with shiny buttons. Maybe even a slogan and insignia. That probably would be rolled out in Phase 2, but hasn't been finalized and may change. Lastly, we will move on to Phase 3 - Profit.

It's perfectly fine to call us names as it's your opinion. It only falls under a personal attack if it violates the Big Six. Only Linden mod's have the option to edit:

aggressively offensive personal attacks to remove those statements that violate the community standards (with an accompanying statement explaining the violation and reason for edit), please note language, such as "fraud, liar, cheater, griefer, troller, jerk, scam artist" etc is strongly discouraged, but will not be removed.

Emphasis my own. So yes, you can call us a jerk. It's not violating the Community Standards. It just isn't very nice.

Edit: Because I wrote to top part quickly and was paraphrasing something I read earlier.

I am a bit worried at the negativity this program has conjured up, but it comes with any big change. And things started out rocky. I'm definitely one of those who has been a bit clumsy in the first few days, but if there's anything good about me, I learn from my mistakes quickly. I just want to get thru the rest of this term in one piece. :p

I do wish that reports on posts were more transparent and everyone: moderators, posters, readers, could see which posts are flagged. Not necessarily by whom, to protect people in intense debates. But we should all be able to SEE which posts were flagged and know why mods come to the thread when they do.

Taco, i think you're touching on a serious point here. one that's a little more complicated than what you have posited, but a good point nonetheless.

ResMods do need to keep a check on themselves and how we act with these new powers. it could easily become a situation where any of us can forget "Where we came from" and end up succumbing to "absolute power corrupts absolutely". although, some appearances of such may just be birth pangs of this initial round.

just like us and subject to being petty, subjective, and jerkfaces?

now, as far as that goes.. sure, we're all human and subject to the same human traits, BUT as ResMods we're not held to this either. we're subject to pointed scrutiny by the community when it comes to that humanity. as well we should be. the only problem is that we have to remember everyone else can be subject to these differences, while we have to avoid them.

please let me know if i perform in a way that is disturbing or seems to be an abuse of my power. i will always welcome critiquing of both the program and of my own performance.. it's the only way it can work. i firmly believe the ResMods need to be kept in check by the community, but would suggest that it be done in a civil(-ish) manner. reactions and comments may be heated, but this is ot reason for concern.. the only time i would be wary of such commentary is if it becomes mean-spirited and attacks individuals or becomes cruel inflammatory arguements. that would only serve to harm both the program and the community. (Gabe, you may have been making a satirical-esque comment, but actually.. you're right.. and you're one of them! the community are the ResModRsMods. ;))

Pity we don't have slick powers -- or well .. anything really..

Makes ya feel like this guy...

Don't get me wrong - I like a lot of you guys personally.. I just think the program sucks dog balls.

I have a bit of a reputation for being critical of LL policy (no, really, I do!) but I'd far rather see the current cardre of ResMods - who like most humans have failings - but actually seem to be taking their responsibilties and ethics seriously than the previous, overworked, somewhat school-marmish and caprecious not-quite-a-system.

I think the current ResMods are doing a splendid job in comparison to their predecessors.

Dear Cybin,

I want to thank you for distilling my post to it's heart. I often post in shorthand, and am finding that this may be a improper medium to do so, as what seems obvious sarcasm to me could be misinterpreted as a really shitty idea, and vice versa.

I'd only ask that a ten-fold rise in moderation not lead to a one-hundred fold rise in zealotry. B6/TOS is a subjective viewpoint, and suddenly, the number of reviewers has gone up 10fold. While I understand that everyone has an opinion, please understand that the numuber of "filters" has increased in the same ratio, and that any one of them can deem my or anyone elses opinions or statements within or without the rules. Now anything we type here has to go through 10 people, not 1, and anyone one of them can say no.

I honestly charge you with over-zealotry; not you in particular, but ResMods collectively. I do not think the problem with the forums was under-moderation, i think that it was a resource issue that led to this workaround; and yet what i'm seeing is a supercharged "we can do it!" overmodderation. It is not an 'outrage', nor a "let's tier down" issue, it's more of a "gah, have a heart" thing for me.

I wish Chip or Chirstiano were here, they are much better at saying what i want to on all issues; but i do want to thank you for adressing my concern, superior sir.

/me goes back to his ginger habit
