Remember that there are restrictions on the preview grid based on account age. I believe anything created after 26th June 2006 cannot access the preview grid, for obvious reasons.

The whole thing of the test grid being restricted by join date is pathetic to be honest. And the 1.11.0 Siva client does not work, despite Joshua Linden claiming it is open to all and the alleged 1.11.0 test grid client still being available to DL and install. If the 1.11.0 test grid is still running and open to all fine, if it is not (as seems to be case) then Joshua is guilty of negligence in claiming it is.

Are you serious ??
07-23-2006 05:26
First, we then would need serious info on what the changes would be, how they are supposed to work, what to look for and what to test. As I see it the info given to us is hardly sufficient for use, on some details we dont get any info at all, hence the changes in the temp rezz the latest version. It would generate a stream of testresults the Lindens had to route. Think about the quality of the reports, they would be poor, prolly filled with hidden feature requests. And of course i would like feedback on the results, something i havent experienced yet with any of the bugreports I sended in.
I dont think this works, the current version states this. Second, this is a game, i didnt come here to be a testdriver for a game in development. I pay $134 a month to be here and this is the 2nd weekend in a row the grid is down, not to mention the other moments. In stead of putting the residents on the frontline they better hire some professionals to get the job done. People like you maybe that have a drive for testing software. Maybe when they put on a financial bonus that would attract more people into doing it. I take it that the lindens test their software and approve it as ready for production, theyre responsable for their own testing and what they risk is that we all get very annoyed and run off to other worlds/lifes. Too many updates wear people out, the more when they hardly stabilize. |

Every time I try the preview, I get that I can't log in. Must be a Preview Bug.

well that stinks, my account was started on june 30 lol My guess is the reasoning that any new player wouldn't know if something was a bug or something that happened to just be the way SL works. Lewis _____________________

Anyone with any decent amount of time under their belts for beta testing knows when something it buggy, regardless of whether they are new to a game/world or have been in a long time. |

Scares me to see how my Av has changed in a month. I really looked like that as recently as 26th June? Ouch. Y'all coulda said. ![]() Interesting little discussion we had at Ahern (preview grid) before I crashed..about encouraging more people to use the grid. I said if users were paid a few $Ls on the main grid, just for participating in the preview grid for x hours, surely it would result in a better testing environment? And to prevent camping...maybe have users work through a specific check list...and maybe even provide a bonus if they find unique bugs. Somebody else suggested the latter (Dimitri...?)...but I wonder how much grey area exists around what constitutes a "unique bug". Haven't really thought this through, but wonder if it's been discussed before. I'm thinking if LL can't afford to have a well paid (real $USD) testing programme...then this is better than nothing at all. _____________________

Incentives might be a nice idea and might get more people onto the test grid. Personally I'd just be happier if they ditched the restricted login system so that I can get in there and really hammer the potential updates (incentive would just be a nice bonus to me, not a mandatory requirement) To LL - Remove that bloody idiotic restriction on test grid logins based on join date. |

The reason it's restricted isn't because they hate newbies. It's because they take a copy of the database over (several terabytes worth of information) when they open a preview grid, including accounts. They can't mirror the main grid, it would take far too long to get anything done.
A month from now you'll be able to log in. Besides, to be honest, a newbie that fell off the boat isn't going to exactly know all the little problems SL has been accumulating. I'd rather see a veteran fooling with the building tools than someone rezzing cabins everywhere. _____________________

I'd rather see a veteran fooling with the building tools than someone rezzing cabins everywhere. They do not need to mirror the main grid, they do not even need to use bits of the same grid. A seperate server maybe with some on the main zones on it, maybe some different ones would do it. Let the people that test there build it ip, allow it to look different, whatever it takes. And how about some new fool that is spending probably half his time each day now playing around the building tools, and in the process of a major build already? |
