Just a little research and I found the following

LindenX - today's average L$305.57 - $1.00 us

From Ebay -
Ultima Online - 714,285gp - $1
Eve Online - 5,555,555 ISK - $1
Star Wars Galaxies - 1,000,000 Credits - $1
Second Life - L$214.28 - $1

From IGE
Everquest - 2631 Platinum - $1
Everquest 2 - 52 gold - $1
World of Warcraft - 8 gold - $1

I thought it was kind of interesting. The one that surprised me the most is WoW. Only 8gp for a buck? I haven't played, but that is more oppressive the EQ2, which I thought was the worst.

I think that comparing the converstion rates from one MMO to another isn't particularly useful unless one considers the in-world value that the currency provides. For example, 8 gp in WOW probably provides as much value in-world as 5.5 million ISK does in EVE. So 8 gp for $1 may not be that oppressive at all. I think the market forces will level these things provided the player base is rational and active.

I guess oppressive is the wrong word. Both EQ2 and WoW are second generation MMORPG's with the benefits of experience from the first generation. One of thing that both were tring to stop in the core design was inflation in the long run. The first part of this was "Make gold rare". It seems from this that Wow has succeeded at this better then then EQ2. But then again, how much can you expect from Sony. ;)
