I think inworld HELP should include a LIST OF SIMS. Sometimes someone tells me to go and see something in sim X, but misspells the name. I'd like to be able to check on that whilst inworld so I can then find the sim on the map.

Maybe something like a simple search box, that suggests other sim names when there is a exact match.
A complete list isn't scalable. At some point it was possible to get a list of all websites, it would be impossible to get that now. _____________________

Yeah an alphabetical list of all sims somewhere would be useful. At least on the web, updated daily or something like that.

Yes, I see it as an alphabet so one could click on "L" and see all the sims that begin with that letter. I don't like search boxes - I just want a list. I like to be able to see for myself (I'm very visual).

Yeah an alphabetical list of all sims somewhere would be useful. At least on the web, updated daily or something like that. Not all that long ago we DID have a drop down list of the Sims when the map was brought up. Why did that ever change....anyone know? Too many Sims to list perhaps? I just noticed after an update awhile back the list had just poofed _____________________

Even on alphabet, that will work now. But at some point there will be thousands of sims that start with A. _____________________

It was nice when all the sim names were in a dropdown box on the map. I think they took that away when there got to be too many sims. Giving the rest of the sim name after typing three characters does help though.
I don't think it would be impossible for them to query the database for all the sim names. It would add to bandwidth and be most useful on the map. I’m not sure that it would be prohibitive, but then again LL did remove the feature for a reason. I think what they should do at the very least is put all the sim names in the help somewhere (maybe they do I never played with the F1 help). Since the software is updated regularly enough (and presumably this list would be updated too), it would be good enough for most people. _____________________

Oh, was it too big for the list box, not a bandwidth problem? Edit to say: Bandwidth may not be the appropriate word here. I'm talking about clicking the down arrow, client requests sim list from server, server queries for list (every single time which would be a bad design but...), server sends list, client displays list. So it's bandwidth and server cpu time. _____________________

I am in constant need of an accurate list of sims to pick from for Sim of the Week. (Read sim of the week in your Metaverse Messenger. www.metaversemessenger.com. Go go! Now now! Read read!) The most accurate list I have found is Max Case's Sim Neighbors database. It can be found at neighbours.maxcase.info. It isn't perfect but it is the best there is. Max has a little do-dad you can attach to your HUD to add sims to the database as you wander. Get yours today! (after you are done reading The Messenger).
It is my undersanding from chatting with some of the Lindens that a "Master list" on the website is a possiability. However, it's not a prioroty so there is no telling when we could get it. |

ROAM is good. Great even. But the database hasn't updated in months.  That is a shame. It's nice, when you click on one of the region name links you get a list of places in the region. It would be great to have a list like that in the help menu. It would help to make it seem like the geography matters. Surely the map API lets one get the region names some way or another, such that some user could make a complete, automatically updated list available on the web without too much trouble. _____________________
