Seriously, what happened?

I'm not bitching about the down time, crap happens and a griefer got us all. But I'd REALLY like to know what happened and what's going on?

Again, I'm not bitching, I'm just very curious about the technical problems.

Can someone give some information on this please.

essentially someone created a self-replicating prim filled with push scripts that sent everyone into orbit. The only people that could defend were those with their own sims who could just continually send the items back to this person.

Even that was sketchy, but I hung out with someone doing that, it seemed to work a fair bit for awhile.

Personally, I don't believe any of this griefer nonsense.. here's what I believe is really happening.

The Lindens needed an excuse to boot everyone off the grid so they could all dress up in their furry bunny avies, have a mass bunny orgy before heading off and hiding all the easter eggs. At this rate the grid won't open until Easter Sunday morning to so all the child avies, babyfurs and age-players have something fun to do tomorrow.

Mark my words, you wait! Tomorrow there will be yummy chocolate eggs waiting to be found.. and Monday the market will be flooded with dentist avies in the vendors!

Someone released these self-replicating red spheres that would track av's in the grid and catapult them thousands of meters up into the air. I experienced it firsthand when I TP'd to the mainland, the only way you could get around it was to sit on an object, but that's if you're quick enough. I logged out of frustration, not realizing I was being griefed. It felt like a script went out of control and it froze me up.

When I tried to log back in 2 hours later, that's when I read here that what happened to me was a result of a gridwide attack. And in Snapzilla, you could see pictures of them.

I know about the orbiters, but that doesn't explain whats taking so long to get it back up. Something more must be wrong

Well... 1 becomes 2, becomes 4, becomes 8, becomes 64, becomes 128... in 20 turns you've made like, a million griefing objects.

That's a problem.

There are no heuristics watching for unusual amounts of object creation. Until that changes, or recursive rezzing is nerfed, we will be vulnerable to this.

In memorial for all those devoted Second Lifers who refused to budge under the sheer weight of hundreds of red spirals and hostile scripts, a small monument has been erected in the Land of Doctor Who.

I in no way condone the actions of whoever was responsible for this fiasco, but feel in some way the community spirit I encountered should in some way be recognised.
