Ok, here's my request. I want to get my hands on one of those little cool Valentine's Day bears that come free with every gift Premium upgrade till the 14th of this month. So, I need someone else to buy me a 3-month gift Premium upgrade. I would give you the $22.50 up front via PayPal, and then you would send me the 3-month gift Premium upgrade. So, it works out pretty well. Anyone willing to help me out?
Also, I'm very sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask this, but I honestly didn't know where else this topic would fit.

My apologies if the original poster is completely legitimate in his request. However, with the myriad scams involving PayPal, and my inability to understand why the poster is unable to upgrade his SL account himself, I would view this request with caution.
Andy, could you not purcahse a premium upgrade for your dog or your postal carrier or something? I don't mean to accuse you of malfeasance but I am baffled by your request.

seems innocent enough

i believe the point is that the bear comes with a "gift account" and the OP isn't aware of any way to send a gift to their self. it may help if Andy is willing to wait for the PayPal payment to be confirmed before receiving the gift account though.
Andy, there may be a way to do this for yourself. can you offer a gift account to yourself? if so, you could simply create an alt account to receive the bear/account and then give the bear from your alt to your main. after that you would be free to keep the alt or cancel it if you so wished.
i haven't dealt with gift accounts and as such i'm not quite sure how they work.

From: Cybin Monde Andy is willing to wait for the PayPal payment to be confirmed before receiving the gift account though. I'm totally willing to wait for the payment to be confirmed before you buy anything. From: Cybin Monde Andy, there may be a way to do this for yourself. can you offer a gift account to yourself? I don't think I can send a gift upgrade to myself.... Even if I could, I havn't added a credit card to my Second Life account. From: Cybin Monde if so, you could simply create an alt account to receive the bear/account and then give the bear from your alt to your main. after that you would be free to keep the alt or cancel it if you so wished. An alt account would just cost me another $10 to make. Besides, I don't need one.

hopefully you can find someone to help you out with this.. or maybe someone who doesn't feel the need to keep the bear they received would be willing to give/sell it to you?
as far as where this thread belongs.. i'm honestly not sure. possibly Notices and Well Wishes, but i'll let it stand here as it has to do with SL and could provide some insightful information for others.

Ok, I'll even throw in an extra $2 for your trouble. So I'll literally send you $24.50 up front. Anyone?

Andy, as Introvert said, PayPal has developed a reputation for enabling bad behaviour. You may have better luck if you offer to: (a) buy $24.50 worth of L$ (b) transfer those L$ to whoever agrees to help you
Net result is the same, but the person helping you has a lesser risk of getting screwed.

Good suggestion, but as I already stated above, I havn't added a Credit Card to my SL account, so I can't buy $L. And I know there won't be a problem with my PayPal account. I've been using it for over 2 years. I don't see how someone could get screwed after I've sent them the cash upfront, AND waited for them to confirm it first.

PayPal allows for a purchaser to reverse payments for (IIRC) 90 days after that payment has been made.

wouldn't it just make sense to ask if anyone has a bear that they're happy to give away?.....Im sure not EVERYONE is that concerned about having one...if you wait til after the day, there'll probably be people who'll let you have one.

From: Ricky Zamboni PayPal allows for a purchaser to reverse payments for (IIRC) 90 days after that payment has been made. from https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/seller/ChargebackRisk-outside : Why do some chargebacks occur so long after a seller receives the payment?
Certain laws and credit card issuer policies usually allow buyers to file chargebacks weeks or sometimes months after the initial transaction occurs. If a buyer waits to file a chargeback, a seller may encounter a temporary hold on funds in their PayPal account for a transaction that occurred weeks or months ago. - - - - - - - - - - I've heard that 180 day chargebacks exist. Not that I think a scammer would be so open about it; I suspect Andy is just someone looking for a gift bear. I've been fooled before on the internet. Luckily nothing financial so far, but then I don't buy accounts for people I don't know. Good Luck, Andy. I would suggest perhaps an $L transaction - that can't be 'charged back' as far as I know.
