I know this whole issue has been beaten to death but I have an issue with camping chairs/dance-pads continuosly being equated to money balls. So-called camping devices have a guarantee that you WILL get something for your time spent at the location. Money balls are all chance. Both serve to attract people, but the two are not equal. I DESPISE the camping fad that has been going on. At least in the "old days" when we had great clubs and good conversation, the money balls were just an added bonus and an incentive to draw new people in. But it was the overall atmosphere that made people stay and come back again. SL had hit a huge slump in the clubbing area IMO (and I know there some that are absolutely thrilled about that) and its partly why I had defected to WoW once again. There are now a couple quality clubs cropping up again which I am very excited about and trying to support. I missed feeling welcome, being able to let loose, make new friends, and first and foremost always having somewhere to go that I knew I could find a great group of people. Money balls were an added bonus, but never the main attraction like the camping stuff is. Am I the only one who feels this way?

As a camper I can tell you I wouldn't sit around for a money ball unless that payout is more than twice as much for camping. Simply because of the chance. It's not much different in the fact that people are drawn to it though. Camping chairs are exactly the same as the money ball except one day someone said "why not divide the payout equaly." It was simply fair. I think some people get instulted by a "human" looking figure sitting all day. That and it causes lag. Or any other excuse to get their way. But if an event draws people, all of a sudden, its ok to have them around and lag is no big deal? Oh, Just because we are "there" Sounds like their own personal problem with how they view the world. To me its numbers on a screen. That is all an avi is. Math. It's not real. SL was never a great platform for an entire "escape". It's too commercial. And that is because the majority wants it that way. If someone wants an "escape" they can play a real rpg. Or find a sim based on that. But it's pretty obviouse some expect "their world" to be everywhere in SL. That is about as childish as a person can get. Like when I was 5 years old? I wanted everyone to play "My game" But anyway, Just my L$2 on the moneyball. I wish more would mix the moneyball with camping. Instead of making all those primchairs. Just pay everyone, in range of the ball, the same amount.

Sean Martin, you have alot to learn, I'll say that much for your post.
Camping chairs have made a great area for the greedyt o get free money, and people are happy to have them, but with developer incentive and dwell dissapearing, it's a dying fad, for the bbetter, those places that pull people in for real reasons will soon get recognition again. Great places that don't consist of 50+ avatars idling and lagging a sim, not even talking to one another. That's no communal interaction.
Moneyballs are something offered as an exciting competition at events, they reward people for coming and are there if the event holder wants them to be, but sometimes they aren't used at events.

I've learned quite a lot in the time I've been here. But I don't know it all thats for sure. If your assuming that these campers would otherwise be at some club, then, I'm afraid you'll see how little things change when camping is no longer around. They would otherwise not exist or log off.. It's not too hard to understand. I think camping will pass to a system that works for both previous camper and land owner. Camping is just the current tool. The concept of it and reasons for its existance will always be there. DI should have never existed in the first place though. But there is nothing wrong with paying the public for a higher listing on some search engine. It's not abuse. Unless you think something like google is abuse. It's how real business works except that in the real world a store pays some other company to post. But in SL the camping allows that money to be directly recycled to the owners of the avie's for when they DO shop around. For greed or not, its the only practical "job" that anyone can do in SL. But if nobody supports a new system that helps, or is at least a little better, than the camping. Then everyone complaining can go somewhere else. There are a few ideas going around in other threads. But if nobody makes a system, or at least votes for one, that works. Well, your smart enough to figure it out.

Well here's my 2L:
Camping chairs are a problem thats affecting those who actually work in SL. Landbarons can't sell land in areas where camping chairs are because the sim is lagged to all hell and or inaccessable. Shop owners can't sell their stuff because customers won't visit their stores because of said lag/inaccessability. Also those who provide free entertaining content can't get visitors to come and enjoy themselves because of said lag/inaccessability.
I've done the camping thing a couple of times, ya know what? Its not worth my time to sit my avatar overnight or when I'm at work for a measly 100 - 200L for 8+ hours of camping. I make 10 - 20x that DJ'ing at events for only 2 hours of my time. My friend makes at least 5x that dancing for a club at events. Meanwhile one of my buddies can make that in 5 mins after building something that looks remotely nice.
To sum it up nicely, Camping Chairs in my opinion promote laziness and a leeching mentality while causing problems for those of us trying to actually do something in SL. I can't wait to see Camping Chairs die because then maybe these people will get creative in their SL instead of figuring out wich hand to hold out.

Thanks to the people who provided camping.

You criticise other people for being childish, but in fact all that you're saying is "I don't care if I lag you out and ruin what you're doing, because this isn't real, so I can do what I want". By that token I assume that you wouldn't mind if people spend their entire time push-gunning you around so you can't even sit down on one of your beloved chairs. I mean, it's not real, is it?

Thats why it needs to be replaced with something that works a little better. But yes if people tell me to go jump. I'll tell them to. *At least I'll say something along those lines if they don't want to work out some middle ground. Or think all people who camp should be banned or not have some part in SL.
