a very strange trend is going on...... I think.. The map is very very nice, but slow as heck now. However.... the API/online version is very sweet and fast. http://secondlife.com/apps/map/postcard_map/showAlso, the events have gotten more and more bogged down. Seems you have to TP to a quiet spot to get them all to download... BUT! You can now see those events here http://eventful.com/events/tags/secondlife?tid=hp_1_tag(which btw can has an RSS feed!) as well as on the events page. So..... two major parts of SL now handled via the "net" now add a browser to SL ... are you thinking what I'm thinking? (god I hope not you should be arrested!!) but are you ALSO thinking about key features of the SL being handled outside the client but brought in via a web-browser?

From: Blueman Steele brought in via a web-browser? You mean an in-world browser powered by Firefox, something like that? That looks like it has some good search functions. after the tag econdlife you can put in live music and get just things with both live and music i think after the tag econdlife. you can put in live -music and get just the things with live but not music. good link, blue hmm, tag econdlife -tringo -sex -sexy -sexay -slingo -nude -naked -camp -camping oops no results

Idunno. When I uncheck events and whatnot, the map runs fast as hell for me, usually.

For me the map often just doesn't ever load. No land ever appears even if you leave it up for an hour.
I would prefrer an instant loading map, I think the lack of need to stream the terrain images anew each time has been mentioned in another thread.
Currently I have my monitors hooked up to different computers so the linking to SL doesn't work but with two monitors on one machine one for SL, one with a a browser with tabs for the roam search , one for the events list here, one for an online SL map, that would be nice.
It has seemed to me we need a browser plug-in that displays SL for a good while now. Advertise in-world business that way.

well I think the idea of having "Firefox" in SL would be overkill.. but if it's possible.. do it.
What would be more accurate is the "geko rendering engine for HTML".
This could then be put on a prim, or just opened like a window.
Having something in SL that does 100% of what a browser does would subject us to pop-ups and more.

We are getting HTML-on-Prim and an inworld web browser window (but I believe the latter is going to be extremely limited), with some interactivity. No-one's spoken yet on whether javascript is going to be possible or not (secondlife.com/map/ inworld could be cool given the custom popups in that) -Adam
