Jeska, I hope you're reading this. Since we can't reply directly to announcements, I figured I'd post this here. The link you posted in your latest announcement doesn't work.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see the video whil I twiddle my thumbs, bite my nails, and try to control the withdrawal shakes as I wait for the grid to come back online. Please ask whoever is responsible for putting the video online to fix it.

Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind. It just started working.

Thanks Burke, but it wasn't the video itself that was the problem. The whole page couldn't be found. This was maybe a minute or two after the announcement was posted, so I'm guessing the page just wasn't up yet. Works fine now.

The vehicle he's driving in that vid will be in your "library" inventory - all open for tearing apart.

x.x The video doesn't seem to want to work for me. About four seconds in it goes all green and everything suddenly slowed to a crawl. I can sitll hear music if I let it play, but no visual.

Eh, I'm gonna stick with the old cam views. I do not like the new way at all. Thankfully they made it into an option and aren't forcing people to change...

cam video misleading?
03-15-2006 11:17
The video shows an AV walking and the camera switching around when the AV enters a room. The video claims "no edits. that was raw camera." I think that may be a bit misleading. As I understand the new cam functionality, camera movement like that can NOT be achieved unless an AV is sitting on an object or wearing a camera attachment.

Linden Lab SPECIFICALLY disables scripted cam functionaltiy when an AV is not attached to or wearing the cam object. This is done to prevent camera griefing.

So, the "cam switches around to show the center of a room when an AV enters the room" trick could not be accomplished unless that AV in question was wearing a "switch camera to the center of the room when I enter" attachment. Builders can not force this kind of effect when Joe Random AV walks into a build.

Is that right?

I was wondering that too. I can understand a 'pop camera to here'. I wasn't expecting that, they'll be handy for guided flight stuff.

I was working with the example provided here and from what I can see that was accomplished with a trap toggle that can "focus_on_me" your AV in a certain specified time I am taking it. I was wearing this camera control of course.

PS - They need to fix the example on that link. The example is duped in the same code window.
