Robbed?

Last saturday(yeah I know it was DAYS ago) I was duped into testing something out for someone and in doing so, I was basically robbed of 9k+. I will not name anyone, because we are not supposed to and also because the AVIE no longer exsists.
I will fully admit, that what happened to me was MY fault, because I just wanted to help someone(GODDESS FORBID). I had reported it to LL that day, so thats not an issue...I know I will never see that 9k again.

Anywho, my real reason for posting this, is for everyone else to look out for people like this. I would rather not this happen to someone else, tho I can garauntee that most of you aren't as lame as me and probably would not fall for a trick like this.

You'd think I would know better, but I didn't and now I am poor again....*sigh*

Well, just keep an eye out for Linden Robbers....

I think the safest thing to do, is if anyone you don't trust gives you something suspicious, rez it in a no script zone before attaching/using it.

It's happened to me more than once that I'm in one of the linden controlled sandboxes and someone hands me a "great new game" and tell me to just rez it and let people play, most often these "games" will ask for permission to debit money from you, I think you can guess what happens next.

What an absolutely horrid thing! It never ceases to amaze me how greedy/evil people can be.

I would definitely recommend avoiding testing any item that asks for debit permissions unless you know the person. The best course of action would be to inform them that they should create an alt for testing purposes, especially since you can have more than 1 instance of SL open at the same time.

I usually test all of my products with an alt. That way, if I screwed up the permissions, I don't give away an item that then becomes a freebie a certain someone would turn around and sell.

As for being helpful,I suppose checking someone's avie birthday would be a good idea. I probably would have helped the guy too, and will be much more careful. Thanks for the warning, and I am sorry to hear about what happened.

Let me guess:

1. An AV asks you to check a new machine for them (a blackjack table?). They promise payment, and even a copy of the table when they're done.
2. They meet you on damage land. (optional)
3. They give you the item (no mod, no copy)
4. You rez it.
5. It asks to link to your money supply.
6. They 'bet' a token amount.
7. Said device/object takes your money
(Alternately, said device says Insufficient funds if you're smart and put your money away before showing up)
8. The device (which YOU REZZED!!!!) shoots you/orbits you (preventing a PvP abuse report)
9. They disappear with your cash while you're working your way back to the sim.

Advice
1. If you're going to test a script for someone and you have not examined the script, hide your money...
a. Place a sell order on the Lindex for all of your money at $1L/$1USD.
2. Trust no one.
3. Take pictures/chat transcripts and report AVs (obviously useless without verification processes now because alts are so easy to make)

(Been there, done that....ended up +$1L :)

So that basically ties up your money, and then when you are done with the script testing you just pull it back out?

Yep, you can cancel a sell order. :)
