Alright.. don't laugh, but as a European newbie 'd like to know what "yiff" means.. My English is up to date but I have never encountered that word before, enlightenment please :)

Also : where could one find reasonably priced homes / apartments / condos with sufficient privacy in a mature area ? The one I am currently renting is ok but the lag is killing my business appointments ;)

Thanks in advance !

Wikipedia, via Google, says: Yiff is a term widely used by the furry fandom as a slang term in various sexual contexts. The word has a number of different meanings, as explained below.

Furries: people who enjoy dressing up as antropomorphic animals
Cybersex: typing dirty to each other on the internet, often with one hand
Yiff: Cybersex between two furries. An euphemism for the nasty F word

Thanks guys :) In hindsight I could have googled it myself ofcourse... *sheepish look*

So that leaves my second question.. any takers ? I know, search the classifieds and/or use the search button and/or bounce all over SL.. been there done that but that doesn't reveal anything about the general lag in a specific area :)

Thanks,

Devy

Devy, I'm afraid your best bet on land is to keep an eye on that category in your "Find" tab. Most reasonably priced land seems to be snatched up pretty quickly by larger land dealers. But sometimes you can find a deal - or make a deal with an individual who's anxious to sell.

As for privacy, please think about building your intimate encounter areas above 300m. It will not keep people out completely (you can handle that with security devices like LockTite), but it will lower the number of casual encounters from inquisitive newbies. 300m is the max altitude for unassisted avatar flight. Anything over 500m risks having certain scripts go buggy on you, so usually most skyboxes are somewhere in between.

My entire house is at around 450m. I put it up there when a large noisy club moved in next door, and it did wonders for lag and noise. The only thing I left on the ground was a fountain I'd built and an elevator up to my house :)

Of course, as soon as you do that, LL will actually release the new render engine and all 484,293 skyboxes in SL will be visible for miles.

@ Cindy : thank you, but I don't want to own land and build a house on it.. I look to rent a pad :)

@ nimrod : thanks for answering, and FYI : business appointments are always welcome ;)

Hi Cindy,

Mine is at 700m and I haven't (or so I don't think) experienced any problems. What are some of the script issues, and is it serious enough that I should move down?

Cheers,
John

I'm thinking specifically about some of the scripts in Strokerz' beds, but that's been a long time ago. He's created new versions since then, and of course LSL has changed. So it may not be an issue any more, I don't know. Certainly his beds weren't the only ones who use/used the menu-driven pose-change type of script.

I know Hiro pose cubes give a warning at 500 meters

They also do something interesting when you first set up an animation in those heights , you will get "moved" to a lower height.

Since they are of similar purpose to strokers beds in many cases .. that is interesting.

I have found tho if I adjust the heights and save the adjusted ones it will work fine after that - no worries.

I guess I haven't noticed because I've had way too few opportunities to try those kinds of things out. :-)

Thanks guys!
