I was just standing on the veranda of my shop in Gama looking out over the water (just having turned on the ripple effect). and it struck me i have not seen much of the world lately :(

with the on set of P2P teleporting and not having to fly from a hub to your location and being able to use the map like a teleport script within the same sim will flying go the way of the dodo bird ?

i for one have not seen any thing much of anything other then the inside of my shops or my island home.

what are your thoughts ?

I still enjoy flying around and getting around in my custom Dominus Shadow so I don't think its dead, more like its a choice now instead of being forced apon you to do. Right now I think people are still jaded from the telehub abuse that they're getting the most out of PTP. Give it time you'll see people flying around again. Granted I use PTP like everyone else, I just choose to use it for long trips that are like 4 or more sims away.

I still fly a lot. Even with P2P. It's more intuitive to hold Page Up for me than to go to the Map and enter in "500" if I want to go to a skybox just above, for example.

It's also important to remember that TPs aren't perfect. They're a blackout moment, and consume a certain amount of time, especially if you have lots of attachments. It's also overkill if you want to go a short distance, especially if you're equipped with flight scripts.

And I like flying around, just 'cuz I can do it. :)

I still use teleporters and elevators for getting around in buildings and up to skyboxes. lol

LOLEX! Good point, that is often faster. I should have mentioned, skyboxes WITHOUT those facilities. Hehehe. :)

I've been exploring more than I do usually - both because I can tp diectly to an area and because boats are more fun with ripples. Flying is not dead - not at all. Now we can reclaim the joy in our flight.

I was flying around for fun, just flying in giant circles and figures eights, not going anywhere, when I decided to look at the forums again.

I still think people could have fun flying in groups using the map beacons to see other, but apparently I am the only person who thinks so.

It's easier for me (with my old computer) to fly around now. I teleport to a place, then once there, if it looks interesting when I look around (all 64 draw distance that I have to look around IN, that is!) then I fly around to those spot.

Before, I just flew high to get from the telehub to wherever I was going.

We demand Barrel Rolls and Loop De Loops - Now!
12-16-2005 19:49
Allowing our avatars to do barrel rolls, loop de loops, and other aerial acrobatics would enhance the flying fun factor.

If the default camera position would show your feet it would be easier to land with precision.

That is possible to do with a script actually. Anyone know of a personal flying enhancment like that? All I have seen is speed boosters and belts.
But no cam adjustments or aerobatics that I know of.
If someone made that I would probably buy it. :D

Yes Crucial it is unless you are Superman. People can't fly.

Scripts don't count, I want to eliminate the restrictions on avatar orientation so that scripts aren't needed.

well its good to see people are still exploring there environment. One of my concerns with P2P was people would not see the world out side of the clubs shops or homes since we can tp directly in side.

My flying depends on what I'm doing. Yesterday I went shopping. No flying involved, thank you LL, it was a delight!

I was meant to be doing some scripting, but needed a break. I normally go and get a coffee, but a friend had just logged in and we were starting to chat in IM. I went exploring, pretty much picked a spot on the map, tped to it and flew round to see the sights. This also meant I could stop and pick up the chat as it meandered along comfortably.

I might, in fact I almost certainly do, fly less now, but when I fly I'm actually choosing to do so and looking at what's there, rather than muttering and swearing as I try to get away from the telehub.

Don't blame the option for your choice

Don't blame P2P on your not flying, please ... if flying is enjoyable and rewarding, do it anyway.

In FL, I try to walk 2-3 miles everyday. Its good for my head, heart, legs and digestion, and my neighbors have come to recognize me by sight. If we need a quart of milk, I walk a mile round trip to the corner store, even though its quicker and easier to take the car. When I get lazy and drive, I don't blame Henry Ford.

I've been flying a lot more since P2P, since now you can fly for fun and not by necessity.

I think people are seeing flying now as less of a chore and enjoying it a lot more.

I don't know if it's related, but my sales of vehicles have actually increased since P2P went live.

I can barely stand to be in many buildings in SL, it's like being in a broom closet if you don't have room to fly around and do jumps and flips.

I've done that, it's amazing how few people think to look at the mini map when flying. "How have you been following me???"

I wish they'd left in the early 1.7 change that renamed it "radar".

Heck, I have trouble AVOIDING aerobatics on the Mehve.

Or are you people flying without vehicles? Why? That's half the fun!

I'm still flying small trips (< 2 sims), and resorting to teleports for the bigger longer distance trips, where the hassle of visiting the black loading bar is justified.

Gee, and I thought this poll was going to be about vehicles and sim crossings.

If P2P will have any negative impact for our world as a whole, I seriously doubt you'll see any substantial effects for 3-6 months at a minimum - and that's if we even see negative effects at all.

I think its a bit soon to be asking this question.
