The file viewerart.ini in C:Program Files\SecondLife\app_settings (in Win XP, default SL installation) contains a slew of things like

Is there any cool use this stuff can be put to?

Yes and no, I've actualy tooled around with this a bit. You can actualy add some custom buttons of your own and change some GUI elements by uploading an image, grabbing its key, slapping it in the viewart.ini and restarting SL. However, its A) Tempermental, last time I tried doing it, it took several tries for the custom keys to "stick" B) doesn't work for all GUI elements and probably not all in world things like trees either (I didn't try anything like that, I was mostly interested in customizing the GUI).

Hopefully, eventualy, I'm thinking that the viewart.ini will be used to make things like full GUI skins and perhaps store custom replacements for default animations.

You can try messing around with it yourself, but make a backup before you do, and keep in mind any changes will be client side only, no one else will be able to see what you do.

Just to make sure, the gray loading texture is not assigned in the viewer.ini file, is it?

Maybe Strife would know how to replace the gray texture with a clear one.

A clear texture with a, oh, a blue outline would serve much same function as an opaque gray texture and look a lot better to me.
