UTC time should be the standard

Since sl is international why can we adopt universal coordinated time better know as UTC.
THis is the international standard of time. It used to be GMT Greenich Mean Time.
UTC is 5 hours ahead of eastern time or 8 hour ahead of Pacific time.

I am not entirely sure what you want. In your user control panel, for these forums, you can adjust your time zone so that messages will have their time stamps adjusted automatically for you. I live in the Unitied States, but not in the Pacific Time zone, so I have my profile set for the Eastern Time zone. That being said, I am not enirely sure why you want a clock. You and I have the same problem, but my math uses a 3 and yours would use an 8.

I am not really sure how that would help since nobody really thinks in UTC or GMT except ... heeeeey ... wait a minute ... do you live in the UK too? *wink*

:p

my point is that on the main SL website http://secondlife.com it would be useful for people who do not known the SL time/PST that Linden Labs uses to add a small clock some where on the screen so that every one knowns the time in SL so if you want to make a meeting with some one in SL and you are from Newzeland and your friend is from the uk how are you going to known the SL Time

Please note this in nothing to do with the Fourm time as you can set that your self

Hey, here's a great idea, let's use Swatch Beats! :)

http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9902/26/t_t/internet.time/

It was Swatch's great idea from 1999 and although it's still around it never really caught on a great deal. Got Swatch some good PR early on though.

PS. No, I'm not being serious about using this ;)

USE GMT or UTC
06-16-2006 11:58
If you want to have a time that all can agree on. You should use UTC.
It is the standard world wide. That way some one in New Zealand,USA and UK can agree on a fix time to meet. By the way I live in the USA but have had many years in Amateur Radio experience talking to people all over the world.
The miltary uses it and international airlines use it. It is the defacto standard. I would find it interesting if secondlife would post the number of people log in from different countries.
Instead of just all the people who are logged in.
It is hard adjusting to Pacific Coast time. Does Second life use Daylight savings time ....

Just a though having a blast of fun

Worse than having PST as "SL time" is to get the whole world doing daylight savings on a different date... so if iRL people can't agree even to that simple thing, I wouldn't expect residents to agree on a "standard time" in SL, specially when half of the users are either PST or EST... :)
