Does the high number of inactive accounts slow the system down?

Just from having to search a bigger database than there would be without so many joke alt accounts and people who tried it and quit in ten minutes and such.

Most other games wipe dormant accounts, so why SL can't is beyond me.

In TSO, if you don't pay for 3 months, you'll be wiped at the next sweepthrough.

If you aren't playing regularly (and I mean logging in at least once a month), then after several months you shouldn't really be surprised that you lose what you have.

And, after all, if you are only logging in once a month, you won't have accumulated much to lose that can't be replaced either.

I dunno, I'm kinda glad SL doesn't sweep delete after 3 months...

I know a quite a number of people who have taken extended leaves of absence from SL after 'burning out' (or as I like to call it 'the creative fizzle) but came back after a few months better and happier than ever. I don't think they would have returned if their accounts were deleted.

Also, I'm planning to do a study in Antarctica at some stage and will be there for at least 3 months, and somehow I don't think playing on SL will be a priority :p I would be mighty peeved if I came back and found my account had been wiped.

but maybe delete accounts after a year or so? Inactive for over a year seems fair enough.

Yes, the overall size of database files affects the speed at which the system can load and retrieve data.

Do remember that Second Life isn't supposed to work within the limits of the technology that supports it. It's a wora'uld.

We can't call it a "world" because the real world runs on the technology that supports it. We've all learned to live within those litations. But, for some reason, we can't abide doing the same in a virtual world.
