Hi all.

Whilst at the weapons test sim yesterday, I had my coller felt by a Linden. He *to remain nameless* felt that certain things I was wearing could cause offence and told me to remove them. I had no issue with this and I never gave an argument. What bothers me was this persons lack of basic manners. There was no please, thank you or anything. This is my issue, as basic politeness costs nothing. Also, as a Linden I felt they should have been setting an example let alone respecting a customer. I made my feelings quite clear to this Linden and still no manners! Grrrr!

Not sure if this was a case of misuse of power or just somebody who is ignorant.

BTW, I'm not tarring all Lindens with the same brush here. The others I have met have been polite :)

A suggestion for you might be to set your collar scripts to specific persons or off when not in "use". That way no one can just randomly set you up for any trouble or greifing.

I think this lack of basic common courtesy isn't particularly rare in SL.

It would be nice if the Lindens could lead by example :)

There would be no reason for you to remove a collar unless it showed offensive materail like racist proganda etc..just tell the Linden 'it offends me to ask it to be removed.'

"Having one's collar felt" is not a reference to an actual collar. It means "grabbed by an authority figure".

rude customer service
04-22-2006 10:20
I'm afraid most customer service everywhere has gone this way, but I think most people's manners are in the crapper.

Next time your in a restaurant watch how many people order their server to bring them something and don't say thank you when it arrives.

Hold the door open for someone at a store, chances are they won't even aknowledge your there. They'll walk past you like they're the queen of the world.

TY everyone for replying to my post.

In referance to me saying i had my collar felt, I was indeed meaning I was aproached and challanged by someone with authority. Just to clear things up there! LOL

As for what I was wearing, the answer is a WWII German Officers uniform. I'm pretty sure there are a few of you now rolling your eyes and shouting "well what do you expect then?" at your monitors. Thing is I am really into the whole WWII thing, there isn't any decent allied forces gear out there and i was just role playing I guess. Actually, when Mr Linden approached me, all was I doing was sitting with some friends having a civil conversation. I wasn't flaming anyone, shooting anyone or abusing in anyway. Just minding my own business. I quite often have all my tanks, cannons, aircraft out.

Anyway, the Linden guy told me, when asked to explain what was offensive, that the cap I was wearing had something to do with a death squad. I was totaly unaware off this and I will be checking this out at some point on the net. I was also asked to remove a arm band, which although it didn't have a swazstica *spelt wrong, sorry* it did have the other insignia the Germans used in the 2nd WW. As I said in my 1st post, I understood his reasoning and removed them without any issue.

My gripe was the manner in which he TOLD me, not ask politely with the basic please and TY's

**This does open for debate, about what is offensive to one person may not be to the next**

If anyone knows where i can get any decent allied WII gear, please let me know :)

I'm after uniforms, all manner of vehicals, weapons ETC. But they have to look like what they are supposed to be! I have seen some terribly badly made stuff :(

TY again

I wasn't there when this happened so please excuse me if I am off base but wearing a WW2 Germans officer's uniform may seem to be a historical thing to you but to others it represents one of the most horrific acts in the history of the world.

I know that not all Germans were Nazis but the uniform represents Nazism to many and envokes an immediate respone. Please keep others feelings in mind.

Nazi-era paraphernalia, as it happens, is totally banned in SL -- not just items that carry their logo. The reason is that there are countries where it is illegal; if the Nazi related items were permitted here, LL could get sued by the governments of those countries. It's the same reason you can't auction them on eBay -- they WERE sued.
