Ok. I'm new here and don't know much about this game except that you can make and do anything. Questions, if you can answer..
How easy is it to create an item? I don't know much, if anything, about creating the items, clothes or whatever. and does it require a program other than second life? or can you make items in the game?
If someone can dirrect me to a walk though for creating stuff. like a "Second Life item creation for dummies" type of thing.
I have tons of questions, but i'll just put these up for now.
Thanks if you answer.

Well, one thing you can do is take classes in building. You can click FIND and type EDUCATION in Events and it will show you all the classes available for you. In Second Life you can learn building, scripting, tons of stuff... you can make your own clothes with the appearance but you can use programs such as photoshop to do your clothes even better. You can take classes on making clothes, shoes, hair, ect... SL is advancing more and more...
Animation is another thing you can learn and there are additional programs such as poser where you can make the animation and upload in SL for your use.
But the first thing to do is to find classes. I have been in SL 2 years and I still love to take classes... is a never ending learning venue... You will love SL if you are a creative person.

Hi. "Creating an item" is as broad an idea in SL as it is in RL. So, in RL, how do you create an item? "Well, what sort of item," you would ask me. And so on. There are literally infinite ways to combine various parts of the SL toolset to create any given outcome in-world. Many of these processes are indeed benefited by the use of outside tools (such as Photoshop or Maya). Other processes require nothing more than SL itself and the time necessary to learn concepts of scripting or building or anything else. So, explain a bit more about what you'd like to accomplish and you'll get some more specific guidance. Now, to create something for profit, the exercise becomes more complicated. Once you know the tools, then you need to know the market. Read a bit over here to find out more about how best to understand that. The crucial thing, though, is experimentation. Whatever it is you want to do, tinker around with it. It doesn't matter how simplistic your first attempt is. Each successive iteration produces refinements in your skills and technique that build on one another until you find yoursefl adept at whatever skillset you've been working on. Just dive in and see what happens, whatever you're into.

Use the find tool, and the places tab to search for a place called "The Ivory Tower of Primitives" It's a great place to learn to build things. Go check it out.

Well. Right now i'm thinking aobut doing an island based of the game, tresspasser. which was released in 98`. The game is a first person shooter based off a jurassic park scenario where your char has crashed on the island, dinosaurs, and stuff. If you've played or seen the game you'll understand easier, but if not here's what I need to have for the island:
So basically what I'm trying to create mostly are ruined buildings, derbris, old construction equipment, vehicles that are wrecked, bushes, rocks, waterfalls, grasslands. You know, jurassic park stuff.. jungles, cliffs and a whole host of other JP related stuff . (GEEK) Also, I plan to have rentable land and shops based on the locations of houses, and shops in the game.
Not too complicated. And If I can find someone who can do other scripting I could have dinosaurs and stuff.... But htis is all pipe dreams as of now...
Thnaks for looking/replying to my question..

I've found building to be tricky for me but making clothes is a snap. All you really need is Photoshop and the handy-dandy templates that LL has provided in their Downloads section. I have about 7 years of Sim-skinning under my belt though so that probably bends my learning curve though.
