Ok after viewing this vid,
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/07/31/eveningnews/main1852600.shtml

and reading some comments on another thread about the fact that they included in game images from Mir about the guy that got murdered for selling a sword that was loaned to him.

The comment was about the possibility of people confusing that story happening to someone in SL.

So I thought this must be some sword, I mean to kill a guy over.
So I searched for a bit and and had difficulty finding an accurate image of the sword in question. Due to a reference in an article about it I believe the name of the sword is "Dragon Sabre".

This came up in a google search yet I am not sure this is the sword in question.

I would like to get images of the definitive sword the guy got stabbed over.

Do we really want people thinking that this happened in SL.

We could get the pics, and have a contest to see who can make the best one.

Then auction it off for charity, which is not only a good cause
but could possibly generate some media buzz as charity events often do.

As well as make the point that this sword murder fiasco did not happen in SL. And use the sword to make the point that good things happen in Virtual Worlds,

I am posting this here rather than in the Bulletin Boards to see if anyone might be interested in participating in this idea.

So what do you think?

So in continuing this search I found this.

Apparently this sword is the right one. Its value is not based on
its beauty or intricacy but on the fact that you must reach like
the 40th level in order to obtain it.

This could change the dynamic considerably as there are so many great artists in SL that this one would not be much of a challenge.

Maybe a change in strategy to creating a truly worthy sword
yet one that no one will have to die over. lol.

lonely thread so far, this one might die on the vine. Might try my hand myself tho.

I could make one of those in about 30 minutes or so, but I'd prefer to make a truly beautiful one as I usually strive to do.

Hey that is excellent Alex, ok then lets go with plan B,
And instead of a contest it can be just Killer Swords for Charity
or something.
Killer as in higher quality this time, and instead of just one
sword we could auction off all the swords that people may care to contribute.

This is the only sword I've ever needed:

Hmm ... maybe I'll make my next design (one copy, not full rights, obviously ;) ) available for this. When would you want to do the auction?

I really have no idea yet, it was just a sudden flash I had
earlier today.
So this is the incubation phase let's see if we can generate some momentum for the concept.
Sounds like a fun project though.

Everyone please feel free to add ideas and input.

I found this excellent site for reference pics of swords.
Since we will not be limiting ourselves to replication of this particular sword.
