Modifying Rights

I just got this message sent to me via e-mail. I edited out the group title and avatar name because naming names is bad...

Second Life:
Your privilege to modify "group title" of "Avatar Name's" objects has been revoked.

Ok, no big whoop, but to my knowledge I never had mod rights on this persons objects and would have no idea why I had them in the first place since 1) I don't build 2) I haven't seen this person in world in probably a year or more 3) Haven't talked to this person in about the same amount of time 4) the only interaction is in the forums and its not always friendly 5) Nothing showed in my Friends List as far as having mod rights goes either. 6) never received any notification of having mod rights on said persons objects. 7) we aren't in any of the same groups as far as I know.

This is why I am confused. Has anyone else seen this or had this happen? Its possible that for some reason unbeknownst to me this person gave me mod rights either by accident or for reasons unknown and the notification never reached me due to message capping.

Luckily I am not a total asshole who would take advantage of having mod rights on someone else, but it makes me wonder who else I have mod rights on and do not know about and vice versa.

or perhaps maybe this is just a glitch in the matrix erm I mean grid.

Don't know why that happened to you, but...

This would be a good capability to have: Display the list of people that have given me mod rights.

Question, can you grant rights to someone not on your friends list? I don't remember.

Well it appears to not have been an accident as a friend just received the same message from the same person, but it still begs the question as to how and why we had mod rights in the first place without knowing. Personally, I don't grant mod rights to just anyone, my husband, his alts and my alts are the only ones i have granted mod rights too. I know sometimes it can be indicative of group mod rights, but if you are not in the same group as a person how do you end up with mod rights? I think it would be idiotic to give out mod rights to everyone you know for no apparent reason. I don't personally care that this person removed my mod rights in the least bit. I am just curious as to how I ended up with them in the first place without knowing.

Perhaps s/he just clicked the wrong button one day in the friends list and you just never saw the pop-up? Or maybe the person just didn't understand what it meant and just assigned rights to anyone in her/his list, considering at least one other person had rights to her goods?
